Hi Bear100.

The boiler is 3-4 years old now. Every so often (every 20-30 demands) there's a loud knocking banging noise, system shuts down, need to press reset to hopefully restart it.

Also has a very orange flame when lit. See photo.

Regards Myn. Smoke me a kipper I'll be back for breakfast.

British Gas first fixed mine (in about 10 minutes) when I bought my (new) house 16 years ago, after the local plumbing company that originally installed it first time round refused to deal with me and started blaming Potterton (they had a point ,Potterton, another British company Rolling Eyes ). British Gas have maintained it ever since (monthly insewerence) with absolutely no hassle wotsoever and I've had lots of call outs, you can also do a one off payment that covers for any repair needed,of course might be a loose wire or a new pump, pays yer money and teks yer chance but the job will be done right first time and they don't make you wait long, any parts needed are fitted within a couple of days. Pov.spec,ftw. 2006, 110,TD5.

From what I can see in the photo your burner looks like it has a lot of crap on it, you should have a blue flame with no glowing orange or yellow bits, I would have thought the loud banging noise is from a failed attempt at lighting causing explosive ignition, has it been serviced? Could probably just need a service £40-70 ish 2016 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 TDV8

Ours keeps loosing pressure periodically about every month or two the pressure gets so low it stops as the safety turns it off. I keep topping it up to the correct pressure of about 1.5 bar and it keeps dropping.

Check Radiators for leaks, also you will get small amount of air in the system when you top it up. Don't make old people mad.
We don't like being old in the first place,
so it doesn't take much to Censored us off.

I know that I probably shouldn't have, but for the last 27 years I have serviced my own gas boiler. It isn't difficult.

There are only a few things which will cause pressure to drop,
Obvious first a leak,
Prv (safety valve) passing,
Expansion vessel faulty causing pressure to build and activating the prv
Gas forming in side the heating system due to corrosion or reaction.

Putting fresh water into your heating system on a regular basis is very bad, oxygenated water will cause your radiators to rust from the inside out and you won't know until one bursts!! 2016 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 TDV8

The boiler is brand new so I'm guessing it's a leak in the system, shall have to check it all. I know they are all bled that's for certain. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

THIS /\/\/\, Over the first 10 years or so, I replaced ALL of the thermostat valves on the radiators, which stopped the excessive annual bleeding I used to do, allways when winter started, again coz of the a55hole cheapskate builders/plumbers. Pov.spec,ftw. 2006, 110,TD5.

Heating safety went on again tonight due to pressure drop, I then went and checked for leaks especially a suspect nut (that's caused the same problem in the past) on a radiator inlet valve.
Low and behold it has been leaking as it was wet and the nut was loose, luckily not leaked too much though.
I've since tightened it, checked that there is no air in the radiator and re-pressurised the system.
Hopefully that has sorted it.
For some reason that same nut has done the same thing before, it's the only one that has ever done it too.
I'm thinking taking it out and some PTFE tape on the threads would help stop this happening?
It doesn't leak when tightened but seems to become loose of its own accord for some reason. Confused $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R
