2013 Defender 90 Puma 2.2 HT Orkney Grey
Steering guard fitment
Fitted a second hand steering guard today to my13 truck. But it doesn't seem to stick out far enough?? You couldn't put a D shackle through the two tow hoopes???

Surly this isn't right?? All the holes lined up and it fitted a piece of cake!!

Any ideas

Yours looks about an inch too far back. On mine the front of the guard fits just behind the numberplate and the loops are easily accessible.

That's what I thought! But all the holes line up spot on!
Has yours got air con?? Does it matter like it does with bumpers?

Mine even stick out in front of the bumper. Can be it the steering guard took a hit against something or does everything look ok?
For as far as I know if you have zircon, it's mainly the front grill that sticks out a bit more.

Just spoke to the chap I got it from he had it fitted to a td5 with a first four tubular bumper and it fitted spot on??

Would that make any difference??

I don't think so to be honest! Surely it still fits in the same holes in the chassis!? An engine to TDi for!

Who's make of steering guard is it?

Was it bought off ebay?

I do not think that the geometry of the front end of the chassis has changed in quite a while.

So two possibilities spring to mind, either you have got an oddball of a front end of a chassis, or someone drop a clanger in cutting out those brackets


AFAIK the majority of steering guard plates sit more or less flush with the front end of the chassis legs. Yours seem to sit to far back.

Those ramps are really very good and so practical.Where they custom made?

Yeah I'm afraid they were! And they weigh a tonne! Need 2 people to move each one.

Dead solid though when on them and about 2ft extra clearance which is perfect to crouch under for waxoyling etc Cheers, David
