I've got a Clifford on mine and really like it. Came as standard with a tilt sensor too - although I didn't know it had that until I put 3 bags of cement in the back and set it off
I fitted central locking to the front doors at the same time for an extra 50 quid |

All the later td5 had alarms fitted but not all were turned on, if you have access to a nanocom or hawkeye you can activate it your self

The 10AS is fitted as standard but an aftermarket alarm will offer more protection if fitted well because it's harder to be familiar with something you don't know is there. www.td5.org

Thanks for the information guys.
If there is an alarm fitted I wont be able to make use of it as there is no fob or remote key etc to activate it with, there certainly has been something after market fitted in the past as there's an immobiliser socket on the dash for the fob to go into although it's no longer wired up. LR90XS2011 - thanks I will give him a call and see what they suggest. No nanocom or hawk eye I'm afraid, I will do some investigation work to see if I can figure out if there's one there. On another note I'll be looking to fit central locking, I've used a system from maplins in the past but I'm not sure it would be upto the job on a defender, any suggestions? I've seen some OE Land Rover systems for sale at britpart so I'm thinking of one of these. Thanks |

If you've got a non-enabled alarm on your vehicle, then you won't have a fob etc.
But all the parts are available; the fobs, the coil that goes around the ignition barrel, the passive sensor, and all the wiring should be in place to plug & play. All you need, as said, is someone with a nanocom/hawkeye or your local dealer to turn it all on in the 10AS settings. but, again as said up there ^^^, a second layer will also help, be it an alarm or just a hidden immobilser that stops the engine being started. Another good thing to do it chop off the OBD socket, solder on *another* type of multi socket, and make up an adaptor to plug your chopped-off socket back in... then keep that adaptor lead out of the vehicle... once you see how easy it is to change the alarm settings, you'll see why this is recommended! |

Thanks for the information diesel_jim! Much appreciated.
I'll have a look over the defender tonight and see if I can determine whether an alarm is fitted or not, then I'll give the dealer a call and see how much they will charge. |

I don't want to hi-jack the thread so tell but how do I tell if mine has an alarm fitted? Sounds daft but its never gone off and I'm wondering if there is one fitted at all. Bar jumping up and down on the truck is there a more methodical approach to confirming one way or the other?

Open a window, lock the car with the plip (no plip = no alarm) then reach in and open the door. If you have an alarm, it will sound.
To test for a battery backed sounder, simply disconnect the battery (but not within a minute or so of turning off the ignition). No noise, no BBUS. |

Thanks blackwolf - the distinct lack of blip blip might have answered my question
Thanks for the link lorryman100, I'll head over there for a read |
