I haven't personally purchased from him, but that is because I have heard from others with Defenders that the Defenders he sells are not always as good as you would think. i.e. they might look ok on the outside as they have been cleaned up a bit but dig deeper and they often have issues with rotten chassis/bulkheads etc.

It is just a case of go and have a proper look at them before deciding to buy, especially from online like ebay.

I have seen a few of his on ebay that 'sold' and then were readvertised so I wonder if when the winning bidder went to collect they rejected it as it was not as described?

Again, no personal experience, but there was a thread not that long ago discussing the colour of an anniversary he was selling (as in incorrect). There was a couple of comments from members who had had dealings with him, and they were not exactly complimentary. Buying an older vehicle with numerous owners is always a gamble from a dealer. I'd prefer to buy private with interaction with the previous owner. You tend to get a feel for the vehicle. Dealers can also buy 'lemons', and are motivated by financial gain.

Avoid at all costs. I've never heard anything good about him, and my brief dealings were (to be polite), unpleasant. An engine to TDi for!

I had the displeasure of dealing with the said ' gentleman' a few years ago. From my encounter, my advice is don't waste your time - avoid.

Cheers

I bought mine from him a few years back and had no problems. As long as you go in with your eyes wide open and inspect it properly then you won't be any worse off than buying off any other private seller. One problem is, I believe he buys off other E Bay ads and sells on so doesn't know the car and maybe wouldn't highlight any problems. If you buy off any private seller then you will be in the same boat, perversly if you bought off Yan you may be better off because your senses would be more alert for probems. 2015 RRS Autobiography SDV6

Avoid like the plague!!

Im not sure how he stays in business...it certainly cant be through repeat customers!
He makes rough old Land Rovers look desirable by a quick Tart Up n makeover.

Ive seen 3 vehicles ex Yan Landy Man..all with new MOTs..I dont know how??
On one the "newly Oiled Crossmember" was filled with newspaper, filler and then undersealed over Big Cry

After a trip to another purveyor of lovingly pre-owned Defenders ..... I learned to beware of those freshly applied black gooey anti-rust treatments applied to the undersides of older Defenders. "Yes Sir it's been Waxoyled or Dinitroled since new and I've just freshened it up". Meanwhile under the goo there lurks a hungry tin worm munching away whilst other areas are a mix of varying filler materials.

Sorry to resurrect such an old thread, but I bumped into a chap last week who had purchased an 02 plate TD5 with 125,000 from this character.

The Landy looked as if it had experienced a hard life with paint damage and damage to almost every panel on the vehicle. The owner told me that within weeks of buying it he had to replace the ECU and injector wiring loom due to the known oil ingress problem. He had also had to replace all the tyres due to tread depth and damage. The rubber seal on the windscreen and the alpine lights was completely perished and the car generally looked like a real bag of bolts and corrosion. The owner told me that he had gone up to Bolton and had basically been told “Here’s the car. You can see the condition. Take it or leave it as the next person to view it will buy it!”

He told me how much he had paid and, according to Mrs Jim, I visibly flinched!

I see that not many of his cars appear to reach their reserve on EBay these days?

Based on the state of the TD5 I saw and the way in which the new owner had been spoken too and treated I would give Yan The Landy Man a very wide berth………

I cant believe this Guy still is able to trade ?

5 years ago a colleague of mine bought one of his " Rock Solid " vehicles.

( if you look all his descriptions are pretty similar)

I wasn't impressed by the condition and said so.
He re- submitted it for an MOT and it failed on corrosion in many places.
The garage said had he towed with it it would have pulled the cross member apart Confused

Yan didn't want to know..my colleague just took the hit and spent a lot before hating the car and moving it on.

It looks like Yan buys all the rubbish main dealers don't want.......

It sounds as if he hasn’t changed? 🤔

I really felt sorry for the chap I met in the car park. I think that he knew that he had been severely ripped off but didn’t want to admit or accept it.

Amazing that dealers like this still manage to exist and make a profit?….
