England 1998 Defender 90 Td5 SW Auto Oslo Blue
Extremely ugly, very old fashioned looking, like something from a really bad early 1990s 'futuristic sci-fi' film, and the pic makes it look like the suspension is broken.... with very poor axle articulation and low ground clearance. Totally pointless. Our blog - http://landytravels.com/

So near and yet so far.

It's a great concept - take the basic concept of a utility Land Rover with multiple body styles, update by using modern materials and technology with galv chassis, recycled plastic bodywork, light weight and efficient power train. Exactly what LR should be doing for the next Defender.

But there is no excuse for it being so wilfully ugly. Form over function, flat glass, no compound curves as design constraints? So what, the series 1 in 1948 was much more attractive (though the 107 SW was no oil painting) and certainly David Bache's Series 2 in 1959 and every Series and Defender since using the same basic body design shows you can meet all those design criteria and still be well proportioned and attractive. Same with a G-Wagen. This is just just bad design.

Land Rover, please pay careful attention to this, and then do it better. For the sake of my eyes, if nothing else... Fully Restored 89 110 CSW V8

Such a poor design rip off... an actual vehicle might look better - Irony is that the Germans think there is a market for such a vehicle when the Indians do not! Opps Tata might feel a bit stupid if it's a success - they seem to have all the angels covered (in plastic) take a look:-

I like it! Sure it doesn't look amazing at first but it certainly looks like it will do the business - a bit like a fat bird in a... no never mind Twisted Evil

With the spec they are posting this is definitely where the Defender should have gone! If Land Rover could keep that iconic look and satisfy Euro constraints it would probably do well to come out like this.
