Odd but that ebay listed has ended?? Was listed for less then a week?? Trucklites are excellent entry level LED headlamp? For an independent comparison of JWSpeaker 8700's and Truck Lite Phase 7 (P7) Headlamps in the States by Harley Davidson riders

Especially when the TruckLite has a vastly superior IP rating of IP69K compared to the Speakers with a IP rating of IP67. IP67 Means dust tight and should be water tight up to 1 metre immersion IP69K Means dust tight and proof against a spray nozzle that is fed with 80 °C water at 8–10 MPa (80–100 bar) and a flow rate of 14–16 L/min. The nozzle is held 10–15 cm from the tested device at angles of 0°, 30°, 60° and 90° for 30 seconds each. The test device sits on a turntable that rotates once every 12 seconds (5 rpm). The IP69K test specification was initially developed for road vehicles, especially those that need regular intensive cleaning (dump trucks, cement mixers, etc.), but it also finds use in other areas (for example, food industry, and car wash centers). So IP69K is superior to IP67, or Trucklites have vastly superior IP rating compared to the Speaker 8700 Maybe we should see if there is enough interest for a group buy   |

I read as to power consumption:
Trucklite 1.3A (Dipped/Passing) @ 13.2V....... that means about 17W consumption JW Speaker 8700 EVO dipped/passing is 2.5A @ 12.0V.......... that means about 30W consumption Guess this must have an impact on actual light output, no? How much do the big three cost in comparison?
If the Nolden is the best output is that mite most expensive? Bit by bit they will all drop in price somewhat hopefully. âï¸âï¸God Bless the USA 🇬🇧🇺🇸 âï¸âï¸ |

Prices, slightly difficult to be 100% certain, but this is the best picture I can give. Noldens 7" Bi-Led £925- £965. This price is relatively fixed. Price will only vary if there is a major change in euro/£ exchange rate. JW Speaker 8700. Price 2 years ago about £1150, then dropped at regular intervals and is now about £800 Trucklite 7"? Retail price about £500-£550 Hope that helps Brendan |

Brendan, I cannot say anything about the Truck Lite, and no doubt being the 7th generation devellopped very recently, they will be excellent. I also think they do look very good, classical. But I have trouble with accepting these repeated statements that the Nolden light output IS better than the Speaker. That is based on a apples with pears comparison, as you use the stated lumen numbers from both producers for that. And one lumen number is given as "calculated and "measured" (Nolden), the other as "raw" and "effective" (Speaker). I have asked earlier if somebody could put these output numbers on a common denominator, but never saw any response to that. So the only thing we would have is a side by side comparison of both lights, and do a eyeball test. Which you know we did, and when it comes to low beam which is the most important, there are only minor differences in light production between the Nolden and the Speaker lamps. Low beam, well the Speaker are probably a bit better than the Nolden. I have attached the link below. As to the IP rating, you probably have it entirely right there, I have seen various complaints here about fogging up inside the Speakers, never seen anybody say the same about the Nolden. Very good, Speaker have work to do here. Now, when these truck lites will start to be used by members here, it would be very interesting to see a side by side comparison in stable light circumstances of the Nolden vs. Speaker vs. TruckLite

Hi Eric, I agree that all manufacturers should quote 'performance' figures in a standard format/test procedures and that would make life easier for people trying to compare items from different manufacturers. This does not just apply to LED headlights but for other items such as 4x4 fridges etc.
In a previous existence I used to do polymer research and if we did not use a standard test method we had to explain why and give detailed test methods so people could reproduce our experiments if need be. RAW Lumens This is the manufacturers theoretical calculation of the light output and assumes everything is working 100% perfectly. This can be taken to be a 'headline or best possible figure' EFFECTIVE Lumens This is the manufacturers calculation of what the actual light output is. It is the Raw lumens minus the losses that the manufacturer assumes from thermal, optical, transmission losses etc. MEASURED Lumens This figure is an actual measurement made for Noldens in a light tunnel in Germany. In my mind this is the best way for a manufacturer to give a light output figure. As far as I know Noldens are the only manufacturer who uses that method. IDEALLY all light manufacturers should give a measured figure for light output (like Nolden) under an internationally recogonised test procedure. Then consumers could do a true like for like comparison. As a small company, Barbara and I like to first of all compare manufacturers figures, check for comparative tests/reports, look at the actual items and if possible use the items ourselves. Performance, quality, manufacturers backup, availability of spares etc is more important to us then price. Our black 110 has Speaker 8700 fitted whereas the white 90 has the Noldens fitted. The red 110 has standard Land Rover candles fitted. In our opinion the Noldens have the better light output then the 8700 which is better then the Land Rover candles. When I have time I will fit the Trucklites to one of our vehicles and make our own mind up about there light output. That might be a while as we are about to move premises etc. To date I have not heard of a performance related issue with the Noldens, unlike the Speaker's with their condensation and corrosion issues. The Trucklite Phase 7 is a relative new LED headlight in the UK market and to date I have not heard of any issues with them. There are other LED headlamps on the UK market, some are more expensive then the Noldens! However some of these other brands do not have light output figures (in any format) readily available??? Personally without those figures being available I would not consider them. Brendan |

Measured lumens is the only figure that means anything, it's like these torches that quote 12000 lumens and actually give a measured light output of a couple thousand.
Personally I couldn't buy the JW speakers from a quality perspective as in my view they are not for purpose, I would be interested to see the new gen trucklites as they are nearly half the price. |
