Well with the engine at the back & the air intake relatively high on the rear wing, I'd hazard a guess it would fare better than a fair few other cars - and maybe a standard defender |

They don't fair too well when you lend one out ,The borrower decides to fill with fuel before they bring it back , rips the air intake cover off the fills the air intake pipe , air box ( and ecu is in air box ) and intake manifold with fuel !!!!
but did just drain it out and all was well |

About this time of the year, and every year since Ive owned the landy, theres a knock on the door. I answer and there stands Dick Turpin. He marches me down to the post office at gunpoint and makes me hand over some cash; 490 this time, all I get for this is a little round piece of paper, he then runs off laughing, shouting lots more window tax victims to visit see you next year. I wish now back in 2009 I had bought a hard top instead of my xs and put my own bloody windows in. At least there would be less rattles to listen to. I suppose it could be worse though, at least I havent got a DPF.
Rant over, Fletch. |

You wont even have a disc of paper to show for your money when they do away with the tax disc.

Totally! My comp insurance (was) cheaper. I wish VED could be paid quarterly as well as half yearly. If I was able to go LGV for less VED, I would take out the rear seats & replace the windows with panels, becoming a van. Asked about it, told initial classification sticks. Could I go Q plate for less? Land Rover Defenders. 67 years heritage, minimal appearance changes, still going strong all over the world. Not a fashion vehicle, but fashionable to own. When will that happen? Won't they loose out from not catching people out or easy i.d. of dodgers, as the parking cops do? They're getting rid of the paper disc in about October IIRC. It's all done electronically now for the police. An engine to TDi for!

In the connected world we live in, you dont need a disc to prove the car is road legal. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automatic_number_plate_recognition I welcome the technology if it makes it more difficult to drive illegally. I assume parking attendants will have limited access to a central system to check road tax via a hand held device. |

At least monthly DD payments will ease the pain of my VED cost over a year, like so many others.
Perhaps VED will be dropped in favour of higher fuel prices eventually. Defenders are humble vehicles, usually owned by people on humbler pay than the saloons & luxury 4x4s which the VED was mainly targeted at. Trouble is it gives them a chance to eek the prices up over time without people noticing so much. ⭐️⭐️God Bless the USA 🇬🇧🇺🇸 ⭐️⭐️ |

It seems we have it cheap compared to other countries, but what upsets me about this system is there are cars on the same roads I drive, putting out the same amount of emissions and using the same amount of tarmac who pay next to nothing. One price for all otherwise you're just taking the ! I would also like to know why I get nothing back for buying British (apart from a massive feeling of smugness - which doesn't help really.) Bloody government, who voted them in anyway?
