2.4 = different animal - actually, for Australia I am told the 2.4 is fairly well liked by most of the blokes who buy them for the tough inland conditions. A mate of mine who runs one of our WA mining ops has done almost 400k in one already between Perth and Port Hedland via Newman. He refuses to use anything else now. This is our standard order for most of our new 110s :- Windshield tint (actually illegal but this is almost imperceptible and passes the light test metres) = Huper Optik Selekt Acht 80 Huper reflektor 20 for top strip of windshield front windows = Huper Select Drei 35% Remainder = Huper Optik 40 Additional fuel tank (rear right wheel arch) Provent 200 fuel filtration system Rock sliders depending on local supplies Security window grilles Underbody protection (diff guard, steering guard, sump guard) Two new Optima batteries (one yellow top and one red top) and ditch the OEM Clim-Air wind deflectors Pair of new Exmoor Trim front seats modified to our purposes Coolant alarm Remove OE fan and install a waterproof 5 fin fan, thermo couple and shroud New set of black steel modular wheels fitted with Continental Cross Contact tyres (or BF Goodrich if deals are available) Airlockers depending on region ARB CKMTA12 – mainly for the airlockers - plus tank (2 in some instances) Rebel 4×4 snorkel Engel MT45 fridge/freezer Fit Nato size jerry can holders behind passenger seat (for water) Cubby box between front seats (Raptor) Roof-mounted solar panel X-Eng winch grade split charge system Insulation/soundproofing (if necessary) Raptor dash console to hold satelite comms equipment and a bank of 12-volt cigarette lighter sockets and USB sockets X-Eng security items: pedal box lock, gear stick lock, ignition barrel shield Heavy-duty drive flanges Super Pro bushes New suspension: OE springs (red/red on rear and Disco rears on the front with rubber isolators); decent quality gas shocks (either Monroe Gas Magnums, Adventure 4×4 or De Carbons) Beef up the load leveler Fit an adjustable ball joint to the A frame Rear bumperettes customized for our use Bikini winch mount and Goldfish TDS winch Re-wire headlights to separate relays Ctek 250S dual battery charger jw speaker 8700 Evolution with sides fitted to headlamp and JW Speaker "Tramlight" fitted aft. We have contracted with Silverton Radiator in South Africa to ship out their standard LR A/C equipment and we expect to start installing these as standard equipment as well very soon. ****CENSORED**** |

Hi,
I currently wonder, how the the Transits manage to survive. I see lots of them bringing parcels to people. I´m inclined to think the majority of them has exactly the driving cycles that we consider as ctitical. If they fail, then fleets of them. Of course after the warranty expired .. if I were the manufacturer I wouldn´t sleep well. Time will tell if we´re only the geeks who make a mountain out of a molehill. "Fact is" that whenever Rover put a new engine into the LandRovers, people complained about it. Soon as that engine got a successor it became accepted by the community. For me it´s certain that the DPF thing is a just a token. It giving everybody with a loud voice (green people, legislation, manufacturers) a good conscience. The whole picture would involve the emissions that are present when the regeneration takes place - surprisingly nobody bothers about that. Still, those who decide have determinded that the DPF makes the 2.2 Defender legal. No room for discussion here. For the time being I can be happy that there are means of modifying the 2.2 that make them fit for tours beyond the EU. |

I hope I will NOT be "unpleasantly surprised"! The guy that told me, has worked at the one of the oldest dealers in Aus for nearly 20yrs, and he told me that he'd never seen a DPF on a Defender. So, I shall be awaiting the results of your phone call with interest! Regards, Pickles. |

A few people I know have 2013 MY 90 and 110's here and I have looked at a few, and haven't yet seen one with a DPF.

Rockjaw your defenders sound great. You have upgraded a lot, your defenders must get some serious use.

All Aussie 2.2 Defenders are Euro 4 spec, so all they have is a catalyst with exhaust gas (differential) pressure sensing. I've only ever come across one EU5 (with Cat + DPF) 2.2 110 in Australia, which was imported from Europe. |

hmmm... so..... having rad all of this it's still seems unclear to me.... does my wagon, an Aussie MY11 90 have DPF or not.....? and is there an easy way for a luddite like me to self check.... Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming...

Type your chassis number into the search box of my web site and it will tell you the Euro Spec number as well as some other car info. Example below.
VIN Entered:SALLDWLP8EAEDITED Manufacturer Brand:Land Rover Model Number:L316 Model Name:Defender Market Specification:Non NAS Trim Level:90 H/Duty Body Style:Soft Top Engine Type:2.2 Puma Euro Spec (EU5) Steering Type:LHD Transmission Type:6 Speed Manual Model Year:2014 Built At:SOLIHULL http://bellautoservices.co.uk/ You can also look at the top of the exhaust just after the turbo under the bonnet for the O2 sensor fitted on DPF cars. (see picture) If you do not have this sensor you have a CAT only system. From the cat only systems ive seen here for dyno work they are also missing the differential pressure sensing pipework from the side. I have not yet seen a CAT only pipe with this O2 sensor or pressure pipe set up though that could be just the 5 or 6 ive had here for a special market. your welcome glad the web site internal coding we added to disassemble the vin helped you out,, though I should have clicked sooner all 2.4 only ever had is a cat at EU4 level and they did not make a 2.4 at EU5 level, this only came out on the 2.2's.

Hey Pete - great addition to the site mate!!
What does (Non EU5) mean? What is the point of describing something by explaining what it is "NOT"? Why not just describe the thing as what it "IS"? Perhaps you have a better idea of what this means? ****CENSORED**** |

Well, I am going to eat some humble pie here!! I H A T E doing that!! My contact at LRA informs me that the vehicles delivered to our group in Australia were all DPR EU5 models BECAUSE they were part of a UK shipment authorised and approved as imports through LRA. Apparently Pickles is 100% correct, the "R" Vin numbers have a CAT only configuration and very few of the DPF EU5 compliant units have been imported into the country or even made it into Australia yet, but they are arriving in increasing numbers!! Happily, our group has placed orders for a few more of these units ex Australia instead of ex UK now that we have confirmed this information. pickles, I accept the egg in my face mate, I was wrong! So we are going to become the proud owners of yet more of these terrible 2.2 things!!!! But at least no DPFs on them. Still, it could be worse, we could be taking delivery of Landcruisers <- YECH!!!!!!!!!!! ****CENSORED**** |

Hi
The truthfull answer is I dont know, the terminologie (Non EU5) or (Non EU4) is hor Landrover list it so I matched mine, though I do agree it does not make sense really. Ill work on removing the Non part from the script to make it a little clearer. Pete |

Nah, why remove it? If LR describes it that way I am sure the lads accessing the site would be happy with LR's description?
It is hardly your fault that it makes no sense! ****CENSORED**** |
