United Kingdom 2015 Defender 90 Puma 2.2 XS CSW Montalcino Red
So it's not a SWB (short wheel base), it's a bobtailed 110. It's not factory.  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

How many mistakes are in that advert?

110 SWB?

Defender?

4l petrol?

Series 3 up to 1985?

Any others??

It says it has 6 months MOT left and then says it had a brake pad advisory but that was only last month!

It says it had an advisory on the last MOT that was checked last month and 110's were introduced in 1983, so no problems there either. It would have been a 3.5l engine of course, rather than a 4l (and possibly an auto looking at the interior) but I guess not everybody is an anorak about Land Rover history Rolling Eyes

If it really is ex-MOD then it's a very possibly an early trials vehicle as they didn't adopt coil springs straight away. Not sure about the chassis though. They certainly entertained some odd chassis configurations (100 inch 110 anybody?) but this could equally be a later modification. Darren

The only thing that surprises me of that ad is that it isn't tax exempt! Laughing

Dont think much of the perfect paintwork from his photos either, ive seen less runs with a brush Whistle

Lets be honest here though its nothing special just a rear ended 110 with the back chopped off Defender puma dormobile camper

Whereas Land Rover 110's were introduced in 1983 the Defender 110 was not introduced until 1991??

The fact that he's called it a Defender, the subtleties of which even Land Rover have been guilty of blurring the lines of, is hardly a hanging offence, particularly when the guy's gone to great lengths to describe what's been done to the thing. You seemed to be suggesting that he was trying to pass off a Series III though, presumably either as a scam or through ignorance, which he clearly isn't.

That ad strikes me as being written by somebody who isn't a Land Rover expert but has tried to be pretty honest about what he's got and what he's done to it, whilst clearly trying to sell the thing.

Generally, there does seem to be a mindset on here of 'lets pick holes in peoples' adverts or choices and laugh at their ignorance', which is a bit sad really. Darren

I'm not at all suggesting its a scam, or that its a series im just comparing to similar style adverts of which there seem to be so many at the moment.
Almost certainly im sure an honest sale, by someone who obviously likes land rovers to have been driving it and owning it.

But equally im fairly confident that the truth is being somewhat stretched in the advert to the vehicles favour which it doesnt deserve.
Just think how disappointed you would be later on if you were new to land rovers and did no research prior (we all know it happens!) and were led along the lines it was factory made and only later found it was a back street conversion on what could have been a damaged 110? (purely speculation by me with no facts to support either way).

Also possible insurance implications when and if this 'genuine' 110 swb defender was involved in a future accident, I'd of thought having family in insurance that would certainly be enough to justify not paying out for repairs at best?

Just a few thoughts of mine though and as said purely based on my speculation, of what could be a very rare and collectable pre- production prototype Defender puma dormobile camper

2004 Defender 110 Td5 CSW Java Black
It's got some clues which make it interesting.

1983 110 SW is plausible.

It's got Military indicators at the rear which would be an odd feature to keep if bobtailed

The bulkhead has hinged windscreen brackets

It's certainly interesting and would need a very very close inspection.

United Kingdom 1998 Defender 110 300 Tdi HT Alpine White
Not the first bob-tailed 110, but still interesting, whether honest or not. I think ProTrax have a bob-tailed TD5 110 Double Cab, that's been heavily modified for off roading, and carries the spare on the rear bars of the roll cage, like a lot of the traybacks. 1998 110 300Tdi White Hard Top
