Trading standards will say what about the hundreds of thousands that are OK are they not fit for purpose.
It would be nice to hear the otherside of the story as well, would Land Rover say some owners are hypersensitive to the odd gearbox crunch and a bit of whining? and expect car quality smoothness from what is essentially a commercial vehicle or is there a genuine problem with the Puma gearbox design I suppose time will tell. What is for real is that quite a few people have reported clutch and diff problems , but has this improved on the newer Land Rovers or is it still happening. Forums do tend to only show the problems people have and I often wonder what percentage of Vehicles actually have problems out of the full amount produced, but having said that anyone who has spent a large sum of money should expect the Vehicle to be reliable or repaired to an acceptable level as there concerns are obviously genuine. I hope the people who do have problems with their gearboxes get sorted to their satisfaction and start to enjoy their Land Rover. Original Member Pie n Pea Club. 110 HCPU Tipper |

It must surely depend on a case by case basis and whether you regard 'your glass to be half full' or 'your glass to be half empty' mine is definately half full - 21,000 miles no problems and not about to get it stripped down and rebuilt just in case I may have a problem. Will certainly not lose any sleep either way! Sympathise with those that do though! If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! It is a matter of reliabilty. I would say lots of people, at this time, having 07 pumas had the clutch exchanged. They died between 5-20k km or so. Second gear synchro is dodgy. How long will it last? Just a bit over 100k km? Why LR introduced a second type of GB? (and now obsolete) Definitely there are important issues on the driveline pointing to poor engineering development. Puma 110" SW

mate of course it goes on a case by case basis.....however if you have obvious things with your car that make you think "should it be like that" then that means if you are used to driving that particular vehicle it probably shouldn't be....if you wish to ignore those signs then that's your prerogative..(i'm not saying you have just talking in general) However there are some people out that that wish to have there vehicle fixed. my gearbox has just gone back in after that and the transfer case had been pulled...the gearbox is now running like a dream. no clunking changes are smooth and there is no whine from the box like I had a super charger fitted. I guess the difference between say someone like me and possibly someone like you is you may not want your vehicle stripped down...but me I don't want to be overhauling gearboxes when it drops out of warranty in 6 months time its got nothing to do with a half empty glass. I have a great example hear for you... when some of us were having issues there was one fella that every time we say something his first reply was "nothing wrong with my car and i have done this this and this" and would often argue our faults because his was faultless (or at least thats very much how it seemed) funnily enough his nothing wrong with my car just had a new rear diff, new gearbox, new transfer case and new hubs.... and his glass was always half full i think a big difference between a lot of things is the mileage and where it is serviced, how much the faults bother you and whether you think it might be something major later on. I can honestly say even though I love my car I have BIG BIG concerns when this car comes out of warranty...and presently trying to seek an extension YOU KNOW REHAB IS FOR QUITTERS!!!! |

Had my transfer box replaced at 17000KM. Gearbox fine though.

Good post mate, I suppose there is two sides to any argument, if you have had no problems then alls well, but if you have had problems then it's not so rosy. When you really like you're Land Rover then it's hard to admit that they are less than perfect. Look at AndrewS, how many diffs did he go through with his last 110. But his present 110 has been good and he does work them. So no real rhyme or reason as to why some are good and some are bad. Original Member Pie n Pea Club.

Over two Weeks now and still No Gearbox and not likely to be one for another Week, according to LR Customer Service and even then thats a outside bet...
I did ask if I changed my name to Sir Ranulph Fiennes and was on a expedition if that would speed the process up. Humour was wasted[/img] |

Sod All the Stealer had nothing in, which I could use...
So my old 40 year old MG BGT has been pressed into service. So its still my mileage!!! They did say I could take my 90 away until the new box is in, but that would be another 100 miles to get it + 100 taking it back then another 100 to collect it!! |

Agree. I gunned it out of a junction last night and the car suddenly stopped accelerating, I grabbed 2nd and it carried on accelerating. It was a splait second thing, so assume I must have hit the rev-limiter, but the engine noise didn't sound like 4000+rpm in a diesel and and a corner-of-the-eye rtev counter shot gave me the impression I had only hit 3000rpm. Pulling off involves a fair bit of foot work. Small revs on, clutch out, more rev's, dip clutchfractionally before acclerator, grab 2nd, clutch out, revs back on. But we'd be moaning about the Defender strugglingwith trailers and when loaded if we'd got a tall 1st gear! |

mine was in the dealers today, for a list of warranty items, rusty hinge bolts etc and a notchy gearbox from 1st to 2nd to 3rd - they are going to change it along with the clutch

Well the Stealer's rang today saying the Box had come and they fitted it, so I can collect it.
So speaking to LR Customer service and say your Sir Ranulph Fiennes does make a difference |
