There's plenty of things to look out for on these. Give me a call and I'll talk you through what to look out for.

Gary,
Why don't you give some tips? I have a TD5 and was interested in what you would say to look for. I changed the injector loom already complete down to the ecu. I moved the ECU at the same time to between the seats. I currently have just a small problem that my plug from the oil sump doesn't what to unscrew. So I can't get the old oil out. ![]() 1984 90 2.5 na Diesel - RR V8 (1994-2001) 1997 Camel Trophy Discovery 300TDI (2001-2009) 2005 G4 Discovery III 4.4 V8 (2008-2018) It's gone but it still hurts. 2003 90 Td5 (2009-now) |

Roel,
Time to buy a difflock plug and sacrifice the existing one with a strong screw-remover. One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS + New Defender 110 First Edition |

Andy, for what it's worth, my wife has an 02 high spec td5 110 which we have had since it was only a couple of months old and it has now done 61kand we have it serviced every 12 months. Apart from now needing a new power steering fluid seal, the car has never put a foot wrong, the only thing i've had to replace was a couple of light bulbs. This car has been very reliable and cheap motoring
![]() The real problem is that she now wants to change it for something with seats made from cow skin and something called air bags and one of these new fangled gadets that change gear for you ![]() Chris MY02 Defender 110 CSW air con, electric windows, privacy glass, traction control, abs,tow pack, parking sensors, rai, special rear seat conversion. |

i find the defender td5 a funny thing.
the engine seems to be very turbo dependant compared with a 200. off boost it's as flat as a whitches tit on boost it's great but a narrow power band. a map helps loads. the gearing is low and the engine can be reving quite hard at speed. i think the noise isn't helped by the 5 cylinders and the torque seems lower than a 200 although it is higher. drive one and see what you think. |

Love my TD5, it is as sweet as a nut. Check for oil in the compartment under the drivers seat. If there is some it is probably a sign that the injector loom is giving up the ghost and is transferring oil from the engine. When mine went it had about 3 inches of oil in there. A new injector loom would be required.

Injector loom is an easy fix, only costs £35 for the loom and £15 for the gasket.
Quick clean in the ecu socket and job's a good en! |
