Prevent water ingress through grommet

Hi all

Any ideas on this ?

I have spots fitted to a light bar, which were installed just before I bought my 90. Over the months they have failed twice and I found it was due to the relay - which I thought strange.

As I removed the relay last time [located behind the instrument panel] - I noticed it was wet, but could find no evidence of any water, or anything else nearby being wet.

After a bit of head scratching I realised the only way this could be is by water making its way from the roof [through which the wiring leaves through a rubber grommet] and running down the wires all the way down to the relay. There is not enough ingress to cause damage to the headlining but enough to create a problem with the electrics.

After all that - is there a good way to make this wire entry into the grommet completely watertight ?

Sikaflex or a skintop gland if you wish to disconnect and feed the cables through the gland.

Thanks K9F, your advice (as in a previous posting of mine) is invaluable.

With Sikaflex would a liberal injection be what is required ?

Yes, smother the area and if you have a water spray bottle you can gently spray the Sikaflex and 'form' it with your finger to get it where you want it and a decent finish.
