Bonnet security
I know bonnet security has been done to death here but has anyone found the Aeroquip lockable catch a worthwhile solution?

http://www.jjcraceandrally.com/autograss/b...et-catches

Fitting neatly might be the challenge because of the bonnet edges are rounded and how good the actual locks are maybe an issue. I haven't seen any pictures of these used on a Defender - does anyone have any experience to share?

Regards

Nigel

I am currently waiting on a Forum Sponsor to confirm they can be fitted and if so will have them done. As for how good they are, it's just another layer, if they want it they'll come prepared. But should stop the opportunist. _______________________________

Great catches. My only concern is the pegs getting in the way when leaning into the engine bay !!

I think there would be some serious fabrication involved to get the thing fitted to the bonnet and it would have to be spot on. Not to mention the protective measures to prevent corrosion. Another layer it may be but wouldl it offer more than a flx-o-steel apart from being more obvious?
Potentially the end result could possibly look quite neat though. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Not on a puma but might give some ideas:

Many thanks to contributors to this thread and particularly Cobs and Supacat for the link to another forum. I think it can be done neatly and without hindering day to day underbonnet access. As for the lock filling up with mud I'm sure this can be overcome. It appears a good, neat solution that adds to reducing theft risk.

I too firmly support the multi layered approach to security and why the idea of Aerocatch locks appeals. For me, the preventative measures are the most important and although the bike cable under the bonnet is likely to be effective in making it difficult to steel the bonnet, if a little inconvenient, it doesn't really form part of the 'layer'. For the multi layer idea to work the potential thief must be presented with a number of visible deterrents; LED on the dash, steering wheel lock, bonnet lock, ball bearings in the hinge bolts. pedal lock etc. A hidden bike chain under the bonnet or tracker don't contribute to the multi layer propostion because they are invisible.

On the subject of weak points and visibility. I understand, but haven't had confirmation from the agent now selling the product, that the X Eng ignition lock won't fit the current production high spec Defenders. Does anyone have a solution to this as the standard steering/ignition lock is a very weak security point.

Regards
Nigel

Not sure where you're getting your information from....but think the seller may be doing himself out of business perhaps unless he includes latest models in compatability? With a little fettling, adaptation, lateral thinking and ingenuity they certainly do fit....you just need to relocate the 10as transducer. I followed the instructions posted by Brian and had no bother whatsoever along with several other forum members from earlier TD5s to Pumas.

Thumbs Up

As what K9F has said. I fitted to a 2011 my Puma with no problem. Took about an hour all in with repositioning the Transducer being the most awkward, but you just follow the instructions. I can't imagine a 2014my being any different.
