Blackwolf - I agree with all you say above.

Never liked dim dips, they draw the current, and reduce bulb life...where the benefit in that?

It's becoming a battle for brighter lights. Having hit a deer last year, I have been improving my lights (Philips Extrem bulbs) to give me better vis on dip beam (and may fit some driving lights before next winter on the Defender (I travel quite a bit in North Scotland)

However, there seems to be an increase in illegal and inconsiderate use of lights (Fogs, for instance should only legally be used when visibility is reduced to 100 metres or below...and then WITHOUT the dip beam ...the idea being that the fog lights stop light reflection in falling snow or thick fog... but no-one seems to actually know that!)

What is the easiest way to dissable the dim dip on my land rover as i am getting fed up of keep changing head light bulds! Rolling Eyes

Not sure if the TD5 is the same as the Puma, but on my Puma I simply unplugged the resistor which is located in the o/s front wing tucked in more or less above the air intact hole in the wing panel. It's hard to see but easy to reach.

That's interesting. I didn't realise this feature was ever fitted to the Puma. Maybe it was dropped early on as I'm sure that mine doesn't have it.

It was fitted to the "more commercial" versions at least in the early days. You either had the headlamp adjuster (on "non-commercials" such as the SW) or dim dip (on "commercials" such as the DC). My '07 DC had dim dip.

Not sure what happened later on when they all became Euro Class N rated.

Any chance someone could post a photo showing where this resistor lives, I've looked on mine (TD5) and I cant see it Big Cry Optimists say the glass is half full..

It's in a place where it cannot be photographed, unfortunately. It is somewhere between the radio aerial and the plastic cover on the o/s from wing upper surface, inside the wing. A torch and mirror may allow you to see it.

Assuming, of course, that you have one and it is in the same place!

^^^Same question here. Would a 2009 model (produced August 2008) left hand drive non-UK Station Wagon have such a resistor installed? In any case I never had that dim dip function, and I also have the electric headlamp adjuster on mine.
Asking this, because shortly I will have my lighting loom adjusted to channel the headlight power direct from battery to lamps without passing in full force via the light switch. And in a different thread here some remarks were made that if there is a dim dip resistor, it might cause some headaches to this adjusted loom installation working properly.
So if anybody can confirm would be much appreciated.

The easiest way to tell if you have dim dip is to have engine running, put side lights on. If you have NO illumination in headlights, you don't have dim dip. If you have a dull glow from the headlight you HAVE dim dip.

My 10 reg double cab has dim dip. But not really concerned as I never use side lights. Lights either on or off.

Tks Andy, as already said I don't have dim dip. Just wondering if they still installed that resistor in the loom somewhere, just like Defenders often have wiring installed for certain factory options which were not ordered and not installed. (like for loudspeakers and radios, etc....)

the resister is plugged in to the loom not part of the loom .so guess it would not be fitted if not used
