There can be many causes, lots of things to get out of balance and as you've said the wheels and tyres can be a big contributor. Suspension bushes are another fravourite and can cause vibrations at different speeds, propshaft joints, usually felt when under load i.e. acceleration and decceleration. Wheel bearings and swivel bearings can cause the odd wobble but as you say that when you dip the clutch the first port of call would be propshaft joints, I'd be looking at the easily accessible bits first.

I'd start with prop uj's. Remove a prop and check joints, whilst off have a test drive, grease the uj's, and check weights are still attached. Replace, test drive, then the same with the other prop.

Almost certainly UJs. Get underneath and give them a good wiggle. If nothing found, take them off and wiggle them on the bench. Should quickly find the offending one(s)

You can often check uj's by lying on your back and putting late rep pressure on it
You have to move it through 90 degrees as often it's worn in 1 direction |

My Defender is currently in "hospital" after suffering from the exact same problem......gearbox and transfer box are knackered and causing it so being changed. Flywheel was suspected but is still in very good condition. |

I really really hope its not the transfer/gear box!!
Already spent a load on the 90, this is last thing I need!! |

Have you not checked the UJs yet?
If they are badly worn, you could end up damaging the yoke on the propshafts, or worse - you don't want a propshaft digging into tarmac at 70mph |

Hopefully yours won't be the transmission. My 110 is now all back together and still had a vibration that the garage weren't happy with and have traced it to the rear prop shaft, new UJ's have made no difference so they're waiting on a new prop to come for it which should hopefully cure it.

Well finally got the 90 into the garage when I got home and the rear U/J was completely gone!! Replaced the U/J and shes running sweet as now!! Cheers for all the advice!!
