Shocked That can't be unless they have taking your spare boost alloy and sold it off or exchanged for a steel wheel. General grabbers are only fitted to the boost alloys and michelins on the steel wheels, both are standard procedure directly from factory. All steel wheels are white like you said. You must demand for boost alloy back and keep the steel wheel as a 2nd spare Mr. Green

Who knows what they did? I know that they sometimes strip their incoming vehicles of extras and sell those separately - that is how I got a good deal on a LR Expedition roof rack. It came in on one of the newer vehicles they took delivery of.

My 110 is a 2009 plate, so I don't know if they were offering the Michelins then. The tyre itself appears to be slightly used (not such a big deal - as the truck is a fleet vehicle return), but the fact that it is on a steel wheel is!

You should definitely name them!

We will all happily send you photos of our trucks as they were from the factory showing alloy wheels if that helps.

Talk to another dealer (main - like Stratstone) and ask them the same question - I'll bet they confirm that the XS comes with five alloy wheels. You can then tell the owner that you've had it confirmed by other independent sources that the correct spec should have been 5 alloys.

The main thing is to ensure he confirms that it was sold to you with only 4 alloys and 1 steel. Otherwise he could claim that it was sold with 5 alloys and that you've removed it. Get it in writing that they only supplied 4.

Threaten to phone LR if they continue down this path. It might be an innocent mistake or they, themselves, might be the subject of an error/fraud from elsewhere but they should have been able to confirm pretty quickly what the correct spec was! One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS

And tell the dealer that I can sell him a set of 5 genuine alloys plus original tyres at a good price so that he can replace your missing one Laughing

Possibly the previous fleet owners had knackered an alloy, so they used the spare and stuck a steel replacement on the back to save a few bob.

My thoughts also, but Boost alloys are not dear, but probably the fleet co thought they might be. Bit tight fisted of your 2nd hand dealer not to have swapped this.

Indeed, that is what I was thinking, if they get shirty then oh well. I'll buy a spare, but jeez - when I saw the car the first time in person it had the wheel. It is the principal - are things so bad that they have to play switcheroo with an effing wheel?

When i bought it I trusted that the wheel was under the bloody spare cover. My mistake. I'd better go and check all the other things that are supposed to be included, that I haven't actually used yet - just to make sure they're there, like the traction control. Laughing

I also did some research based on the number plate, and saw that it was at another dealer for a very short time before this specialist dealer got it - this picture also featured said alloy spare.

I don't know how all that dealer-to-dealer stock moving works...

Good idea - I called both LR and a main dealer, and they both confirmed this.

He did indeed confirm this; they tried to fob me off by saying all of the Defenders are shipped this way. Rolling Eyes

Anyhow - I ran outside a snapped a pic of the offending wheel:

2 important issues:
1. Did you see the car with an alloy on at sale or pre collection?
2. Did they advertise the car as having an alloy spare

Either one of those = game set and match. Although they could say you took it off! Just ask them to prove it Mike

I saw it when I first went down to look at the car.

They advertised it as having "alloy wheels". One could split hairs and say that they didn't specify it had an alloy spare... we'll see how I get on tomorrow.

Thanks again for all the help guys... Bow down

Well if you saw it at sale then technically its part of the contract to buy - unless specifically excluded, easy to prove if you have a witness 2 against 1 sales person Mike

Quite frankly, if a garage that has sold you a 110 XS 09 year wants to argue about supplying a matching spare wheel, then what would they do with regard to aftercare? It's not rocket science to know which garage this is, not being a main dealer of course.
