Picking up my defender on Saturday.
Hello Folks

First post from me and picking up my 2007 Puma 90 on Saturday Very Happy

I took a real gamble and have payed the deposit for the motor before seeing it (not wise i know but i couldn't say no) , I have been assured it is in perfect condition with one previous owner and 34k on the clock, so fingers crossed all goes to plan. Just a quick question I have been a passanger in various Defenders in the past so i do know its the car for me but the Puma I am going for is the base spec hardtop and I am curious as to how loud and just how "basic" it really is? Laughing

look forward to hearing from you.

Cheers

Callum

Nothing wrong with a basic spec Callum! The basic Puma will be at least as civilised as any Defender you've been in previously, so I can't imagine you being disappointed with a perfect 2007.

All I would say is give it a few days to grow on you as they can sometimes be a shock to the system after a modern car, but after that you wouldn't want to drive anything else. If after that you fancy some of the comforts of the XS model, then just buy the bits you fancy.

Thanks for getting back to me Smile

Yeah I'm really looking forward to it either way, I would imagine the only luxury I would really feel the need to rush out and get would be a radio/cd player so that will be the first on the list. Hmm thinking of that i will need to have a look about for advice on fitting a unit + speakers but i would imagine its been covered at some point in time on the forum, I will have a look about for some advice. Thanks again.

Fantastic - just in time for some snow (maybe) Thumbs Up

I found this thread - In Car Electronics > Double Cab Audio From Scratch? by Papa Lazarou really helpful when I put a stereo in from scratch - you should easily find all the wires you need already in the loom and to hand.

Hope you enjoy it Very Happy

Base spec is great - if that is what you want! I've got a new base spec 2014 model and it suits me fine. I enjoy getting back to basics with wind up windows, no radio and plenty of aural and mechanical feedback that lets you know if you are driving it correctly and in sympathy with the mechanicals.

Some folk spend thousands trying to turn the Defender into something it can never be - I'll spend thousands on diesel simply enjoying the unique driving experience with a big grin on my face. It's involving and rewarding and if you want creature comforts, luxury fittings and all the bling bling trash - buy a german autobahn stormer.
