Defender 2.2 Oil consumption experience
Hi to everyone, this is my first post

I have a 2013 110XS 2.2 Defender (from new). I check the oil on a regular basis and to date I have not needed to add any. Is this usual? I am worried I am reading the dipstick wrong as both my Series LR and Discovery regularly needed topping up. Could I ask what other members experience has been. apologies for such a basic post, however, would appreciate hearing others experience

Never added a drop to my 9 month old 90. In fact my 2009 110 never used any oil either.

Forgot to add, only done 7500 miles in it to date, although it has recently become my only transport and will see that mileage rocket 110 SW Aintree Green

I can give good valid info to this. Out of the many, many I have seen I have dipped oil on all of them as part of the tuning process while im under the bonnet and to know all is good before tuning as most leave with the foot flat on the throttle lol. Some needed a very little, some not at all.

THe 2.2 does seem a little better for this than the other models ive checked at the new low milage age so you saying nothing is needing added to yours is very plausable and sounds inline with what ive seen many many times.

Thanks Pete

Feeling re assured, especially as I can not see anyway to read a dipstick wrong after 40 plus years of having to do it

Hello,

hardly any oil consumption ... if at all only minimal ... so far no need to top it up during service intervalls ... (90 / 2.2 MY2012 - approx. 31,000 km on the clock now) Best Regards,

Axel

Both the Puma 2.4 (in my Defender) and Puma 2.2 (in my Transit based Motorhome) never needs topping up.

The Puma seems very conservative on it's oil.

Does your Series and Disco burn it, or leak it! Whistle Craig Rogers

I've never had to add oil to my Puma since I got it new in Feb 2010, not even on a 3-week/5600km tour in Namibia 3 years ago Thumbs Up --

Thanks for the replies, great news. Like the Defender better with every mile and pleased to hear about the 5600km trip without any I am just booking my ferry tickets for a May trip to Nordkapp which I reckon will be similar distance over a similar time period.

The Series used and leaked it, but what a vehicle, wish I had the mechanical aptitude to have kept it in top condition. The Discovery nearly always took at least a Litre between services with no obvious leaks although once again I am not knocking it as the Discovery was probably the best all round vehicle I have ever had.

When I found myself in a position to buy a new Defender I jumped at it despite all the negative reviews I read from certain parts of the community. I guess I just could not believe my own eyes that it was not using any oil, and by the way, it does so many other things much better than I expected eg cruise nicely on the motorway.

Anyway going off subject, once again thanks for the replies, pleased to hear your experiences 110 SW Aintree Green

Hi, to fortify this post mine is a 2.4 MY09 with a BAS tune (it is great) I use Mobil 1 full synthetic 0-30 oil and the vehicle is used mainly for towing a Caravan (2 tonne) sometimes in extreme heat (35 d +) with an oil change interval of 10000 k’s. It does not ever need a top up, follow Pete from BAS he always has good advice. WMcA Brisbane Australia
