Nanocom will not support reprogramming of the ECM for the 2.4 Defender, Sorry. Although it is a great tool to have for those 'Damn Land Rover' moments!

Whoever you use....
Make sure they update your software to the latest version... which can not be done remotely with a tuning tool. Make sure they do a full diagnostic check.... not just a plug in and look for fault codes! Once the new calibration has been flashed into the ECU make sure they redo the pump learn and more importantly the pilot injector learn. And make sure you know what your getting.... Very soon the Nanocom EVO will support probably all BAS tuning and Remaps on TD5 , Puma 2.4, Discovery 3 , RRS and possibly the Freelander 2 eventually. All will be released in stages but I suspect we will add the puma 2.4 first, once ready it will be available on my web site and in the BBS web shop along with the currently sold MSV2 BAS Remaps. Of course the tool will along with its already very good function list may end up having the such craved on here functionality for VCV pump learn and calibration as well as pilot correction features . The nanocom tool is as you know a fantastic little tool and an ideal host for BAS as very very good diagnostic and remap tool combined. Watch this space Regards Pete. I thought that new news may please a few members.
BBS are already working on the functions and special firmware needed as well as a lot of other Nanocom software functions for other currently supported models. It would not be fair to put an exact release date on it really as the BBS team have heck of a lot of work to do on this implementation for me due to a very complex security setup that's needed. Once finished this will allow the tool and user permission to program specially verified standard power level factory type files/calibrations along with BAS written specially coded for Nanocom remap files. I hope it wont take that long to complete and be ready, but both the BBS team and my self do have a real lot of work and testing to complete before its publicly available. Pete. |

In short... it is a function within dealer spec diagnostic tools that will perform a set-up/learn routine that optimises the the fuel pump (high pressure) and injector pilot injection.
The pre-injection or pilot phase reduces combustion noise and mechanical load - and must be optimised especially when any calibration changes are made. This is in addition to the ECU being programmed with the 16 digit code from the injector (which relate to manufacturing tolerances). The VCV calibration does not make any difference if done before/alongside/after/not done at all or every option you can suggest, providing it is already in a calibrated state and has not been replaced for a new one and providing the tuner has not adjusted the rail or pump pressure in the remap - and most decent tuners wouldn't adjust this as you well know its torque based tuning Gas, Grass Or Ass - Nobody Rides For Free "UNDERSTEER" ----is when you hit the fence with the front of the car. Er no.... Think you are confusing me with someone else. Going back the original point: The learn process is critical as it determines and sets the correct entry conditions for the start of the life cycle for adaptive learning. Therefore this procedure being done at the beginning of the working life of the system or when key components of the FIE are changed is very important. The base values are used in the corrective and adaptive process during the operational life of the system to deal with mechanical wear, system drift, electrical bias and climatic changes. This learning should be done especially when a diesel vehicle running a Torque Based Strategy is tuned or any thing done that changes the operational points of its 'Normalised Transient Torque Range'. This is the range that the vehicle would have become used to operating in based on its Power, Torque, Fuel usage and Driver Input Characteristic. Therefore if the vehicle is properly tuned with the necessary points of the Vehicle Calibration are dealt with, then the learn process is necessary - especially for optimisation.
