I've fitted intercoolers to Td5's with the same setup in the past without a problem.

My IRB/PWR intercooler will fit Whistle
Mainly due the fact is uses a very high quality core - so no need to go so big... which also provides other benefits.

I needed a new and upgraded intercooler for my Td5 - couldn't get off the shelf due to having both air con and the additional complication of the autobox oil cooler. Got a custom fit one from Allisport for £460. Still needed a couple of mods to get it to fit right though!

However was worth the effort as the difference was obvious as soon as we went off for the first test drive - much smoother and noticely more power. Thumbs Up Our blog - http://landytravels.com/

By using a more efficient core (i.e. not some cheap Chinese made one) you can make the intercooler smaller without loosing efficiency...

The smaller the intercooler, the less volume - which when done properly makes a big difference to drive-ability and response.

Thank you Ian. I presume that by also being smaller in overall dimensions, when compared to other "full-size" intercoolers, the unimpeded air flow through the radiator is another advantageous benefit?

Yes...

I also do a different radiator with different pitching top and bottom to make more use of the space that is not behind the intercooler... and one that uses the same pitch to get maximum air flow when a larger intercooler is used (needed for some markets and applications)
