LR approved Eberspacher or equivalent?
I'm currently considering block and/or cabin heater for the Defender.

Having read all the Eberspacher type threads leaves me with a question: does anyone know if there is there a LR approved solution to such heating? E.g. for military / Scandinavian markets? (as a new vehicle I want to reduce the risk of wriggling regarding warranty claims)

If there's no "approved" solution, can anyone recommend a dealer/specialist in the NW / North Wales who has fitted a few to Defenders? I've seen a reference on here to Ribblesdale Auto Electronics but not sure if they're the "go to" people for this sort of thing round here, and I'd prefer to have this sort of thing done by someone who already knows their way around the vehicle/install.

May I suggest you have a few words with Derrick at LRS. Site sponsor and He seems to know his way around the Webasto set up as he supplies and fits them.

Site sponsor and his web address is www.lrsshop.co.uk

For heating the coolant, Webasto Thermotop C have been fitted for the scandinavian markets since 99, and still are fitted today.

For hot air the Airtop 2000 is a favorite mounted under 2nd row seat.

The AT is a little easier to install as you dont need to wire in cabin fans or water pipes.

Both can be installed with timer and remotes.

Edit:- these are not factory fit, these are mounted in Norway at the docks when the vehicles are delivered. "Rafiki" 2007 110 STW - Rolling rebuild.

Quite a few members have fitted webastos or eberspachers, both "block" and "air" heaters.

I bought a thermotop C kit from Derrick at LRS as a complete kit, but they do come up on ebay - you get what you pay for Shocked

Depending why you need one will help determine whether you have an air heater or a block heater. A block heater will also heat the cabin using the regular vehicle heater once the block is upto temperature. Depending on whether you go wading/off roading, will help determine the positioning of the block heater. Also whether you have LHD or RHD vehicle.

Air heaters tend to be mounted under the 2nd row seats, or in some models (td5's) can be fitted inside the seat box where the fuses are housed with some modifications.

good luck !

some Military LRs - HS TUM WW versions have webasto engine coolant heaters and extra associated plumbing for radiators around the battery box and in the rear. Cheers

A cheaper alternative is a kenlowe block heater, these are simple to fit but require 240v mains. OK if you want to heat the block at home, or with a portable generator
