Yeah, it does not work like other vehicles.
I find the easiest way to open it is to hold the cap with one hand and turn the key with your other hand, otherwise the key turns the cap and you end up looking like a n00b with the petrol attendants ![]() 2010 Defender Puma 90 + BAS remap + Alive IC + Slickshift + Ashcroft ATB rear 2015 Range Rover Sport V8 Supercharged ![]() ![]() Defender Puma Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zZ1en9 Discovery 4 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zXrtKO Range Rover/Sport L320/L322/L494 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zc58JQ |

I had to put my filler cap key on a separate key ring to make unlocking them easier. saves faffing as cant turn the lock with a few keys in the way. I do have a few keys on the main key ring mind. I just keep the key in the cubby box.

I find it easier to unlock the fuel cap (quarter turn..?) then remove the key and continue turn the cap till it comes off.
I thought the key needed to be kept in, but since finding out it doesn't, the process is a lot easier. HTH cheers Simon |

Replacement fillers are great.
You can leave them locked or unlocked. They even have a retaining strap so you don't leave them on the pump. (Guess how I know ![]() Cost from franchised dealers - about 25 quid. ![]() |

If the problem persists when you just have the fuel key in your hand, take it into dealer and get them to replace it under warranty.
Yes we have that tshirt. Brendan |

I remember having to 'phone Ashcroft's up when I had their automatic PUMA a few years back, couldn't work out how to get the cap off. In the end it was a combined effort between me and the petrol station staff!
My one and only experience of using the PUMA set up. |

My trick is to take the Defndoor and place it on my bumperettes steps to the rear.
Then turn the cap to best orientation for inserting the key, then unlock it and remove key. Then unscrew it and place on top of the Defendoor on said rear bumperette. ![]() Putting it back is just the opposite of removal. TheThunder Rollsπ¬π§πΊπΈ β½οΈπ’οΈβοΈπ§°πͺ |

You'll regret it if someone siphons a full tank off for free for themselves.

It doesnt seem to matter if its locked, my 300tdi had its fuel cap broken off at 9 in the morning by work. Luckily they were disturbed and left with very little fuel.
