it was quite a day yesterday, lots of socializing but also i think we covered nearly 50 miles together.
it's a balancing act, we were lucky with the weather yesterday, on previous outings it's rained pretty much all the day but we overcome that by lunching in sheltered areas or barns with bigger groups it's important to all have maps, cbs and a trusty tail-end-charlie to keep the lead vehicles informed we are all together. we get out onto the plains about every 6-8 weeks, it would be good to see you come along too sometime .. we had David Whitaker come along yesterday, having driven down from Cheshire ... and I still owe you a beer |

A few pics of mine:
A couple of Citroens Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Interestingly enough, this group are led by the local SPTA policeman, so should anyone feel the need to moan about how many vehicle there were in our group (which was a bit big I must admit, having said that I think we only drove on 3 or 4 "muddy" lanes, the rest were cat1 tracks) then they might consider contacting this chap! Wow so it looks like everyone had a good time.
I went and met up with some friends and in the end it was only 4 vehicles which were 1 Discovery, 1 90 soft top, 1 110CSW and a series IIA. We had loads of fun despite the heavy rain and very strong wind, but by 12pm the wind calmed down and the rain stopped thankfully. It was the first time on the plains for me and certainly wont be the last as i was amazed as to how big the place really is and the extent of the lanes that are there, which on some occasions were very muddy and alot of sideways moments trying to get out of some ruts. We also got to visit the small village of Imber which was interesting and gave us a break from all the driving. Sadly though the Series IIa lost its gearbox selector so we ended the day on that note, however with a little bit of F-ing and Blowing he managed to find it again with the drive back to home without any floors attached. here are a few pictures of our day. Imber village is "open" still until 0800 on Monday 6th.
I might try and swing out onto the areas this w/e in the 110, get a bit more laning in and soak up some of the water that's around! |
