Prop Shaft Phasing - Double Cardon

I have been reading up on previous posts about phasing of the props. The long and short of it is that the 'science' says the rear prop should be in phase (as the transfer box flange and diff flange planes are parallel to one another), whilst the front prop should be out of phase as the flange planes are not parallel to one another.

Currently the rear prop is 45 degrees out of phase and I will get that sorted. The front prop is A DOUBLE CARDON and is 90 degrees out of phase. I checked my original front prop and that had been set at 45 degrees out of phase.

So for the front prop - does the same logic still apply for double cardon as for a conventional prop - ie should it be out of phase? And secondly, does anyone have any recommendations for the angle of phase. I'm thinking to turn this back from 90 degrees to 45 degrees as this seems to be the received wisdom from articles I have read

I wouldn't have thought the front double CV shaft should be out of phase, as the double CV bit eliminates the "diff nose not pointing at the transfer box flange" problem

edit: I had an equippe4x4 prop on my old 90, and I can't remember whether it was in or out of phase

edit2: just checked some old photo's of my prop, and it was in line.

Thanks - I'm really looking for somebody who can help with the science bit. Props are usually set in-phase for all except the Defender and RR

I'll start with the rear prop as that is definitely wrongly phased and go from there

Got to ask.... how/why are your props out of phase? has some imp been fiddling, or do you have some drivetrain vibrations? (since the 2" lift?)

The lift could be the problem... tried castor corrected radius/trailling arms instead? (front ones will help the hansling if your lift is too high)

Am I right in saying that phasing only applies to a 110 and not a 90?

Any advice appreciated.

I wouldn't think the wheelbase would make any difference... although the longer the prop, the shallower the UJ angles.... hmmm.... i don't know now... confusing myself!

Thanks for the reply Jim. My reason for asking is that I read an article posted elsewhere on this forum, which says phasing only affects RR and 110 Defenders.

What is confusing me though is this, it goes on to say later in the article that in-line flanges should be in phase, but out of line flanges should be out of phase. Well, the out of line flanges certainly would cover the front prop on a 90 - hence my confusion.
