Rattle coming from driver's door, possibly near latch?
Hi all...

My 110 has developed a really annoying rattle/squeak that appears to come from around the door catch on the driver's side. It is particularly annoying as it manifests itself only when driving slowly over bumpy terrain or roads, and due to the position isn't something that I can easily troubleshoot while driving.

Before I take off the door card I figured I'd ask if anyone else here has experienced something similar.

It almost sounds like the door card itself squeaking, however it stops when I open and shut the door w/o releasing the handle, not allowing the lock to catch (albeit while driving slowly!).

Shocked window dropped out! Want to avoid that, I'll have a look at those bolts when I take the card off.

Had something similar happen on Mrs. Eutek's Merc, the rear windows on her model's year have an awful design, the mechanism eventually fails, whether you use it often or not, had one window fall into the abyss of the door and break while lowering it.

Happened to me! Except it shattered in the door when my passenger tried to raise it.

Fixed under warranty but they didn't get all the glass out and it rattles around in the door now! Meaning to get it out sometime Cheers, David

I have the same rattle and on initial investigation it seems that the metal rod connecting the door handle to the latch has started to vibrate. There looks to be plastic guides which normally keeps this rod on track. They have worked themselves loose. I am waiting for the next service to get this sorted.

just in case you don't know .. sometimes you have to move window up or down to be able to get at bolts and BE CAREFUL if they electric .. seem a few trapped fingers in workshop

Well - took the door card off, drove around a bit to better locate the source of the rattle, to discover that it isn't there!

I did glue one of those plastic rod guides back in place, but that wasn't making much noise at all.

The rattle appears to be up around "ear height". Almost like it is coming from the pillar between the driver and passenger doors, or maybe even the driver doorframe up near the window track. No window rattle though, that and the track itself are snug.

It isn't the seatbelt lug either, checked that. Very odd...

I have one of those too! In four years of motoring I still haven't found out what it is that is rattling. It does seem to stop if I open the door though.

Solution - turn up the radio.

I'm just leaving the dealership now after having a bunch of tweaks and repairs done.

The drivers window rattle was found to be the connecting rod between the lock and the door handle. On the rod are a couple of plastic pads that stop the rod rattling against the door. The irony being that it was these plastic squares that had rattled loose and were themselves rattling against the inner metal sheet.

Might be the same for you guys.

No, athough I did find one that had come unglued. Glued it back in place, slightly less rattle now but the one by my ear is still there.

It does stop if I open the door, but hard to drive like that. Laughing Pehaps it is related to the bolts that join the b-pillar to the roof...

So... sorted. Mark Smith in Bicester discovered the source of the rattle. Seems the catch on the door had worked itself a tiny bit loose, you could barely feel it - but that was enough to make the door rattle like mad and send the vibrations up to ear level.
