Isle Of Man 2015 Defender 110 Puma 2.2 XS CSW Montalcino Red
2007 Defender 110 XS, running report
Morning all,

OK, views so far, after a couple of hundred miles, at running in engine speed,, to 2500 rpm, plus a few now to 3000,

Filled it up after the first hundred miles, and done about 85 on the first tank,,either the gauge is bust, or i can expect a big drop soon, or its more economical !! Shocked

Had a bit of rain, and no leaks ! yet !! the new steel doors and seals are an improvement, also less wind noise
at 70 in 6th (around 2200 rpm)

A air-con system that now does what it says,, obviously not to RRS climate standard, but much better that the TD5 version !!

Don't even notice the bulge in the bonnet, if fact, its butched up the visual stance of the Defender in my mind Surprised

Downsides,, the rear load area is compromised by the rear seat locking bracket in the middle of the floor,
The 2 extra forward facing seat take up a fair bit of space, (to be removed !!)
Quite a lot of induction noise from the air intake, more pronounced when window down , on high hedge lanes

But all in all, Big gain in Engine/gearbox, Dash, rear seats,, But am having a pang, that they have lost a bit of Defender character,, ie no personal war changing gear, and the ability to have a conversation with someone sat 2 feet away in the passengers seat, without have to raise your voice !!

110 XS in Cairns Blue, with towpack & option rear seats

Looks good!
small points:
1] Is the silver of the light surrounds and grill the same shade as prevoius model, looks lighter from photo?
2] Why after all these years do they still put the aerial on the top OS wing? Seems a bit dated nowadays when all aerials are virtually void from most vehicle panels.

Hi John,, Not as yet, They certainly take up more space than the 4 x side face seats, but so far not needed the extra, I know my Mobile Storage box will not fit between the lower seat brackets !!! California F1, 75th 110 "Kermit", 50th Ann V8, 90 V8 Hybrid, 55 Series 1

They are in the way compared to the TD5, my TD5 was originally a 12 seater with two benches which folded up out of the way, then I replaced them with Exmoor Trim fold ups which also left the floor clear.

I've looked at mine, scratched my head a bit but as you say have still managed to fit everything I need in round them.

Nice, I'm thinking of wing top protectors as I seem to have a couple of scratches already (kid's bags no doubt).

Where did you get the black plates from, painted or anodised? And did you put any silicon or anything between the plate and the wing?

Cheers.

John

Not scratched mine as yet Rolling Eyes ,, but it was a high possibility, hence the fitting,

I went for Genuine Landrover ones, they come with a dense foam back, and are riv-nut screwed down, so could not see the point

Just thinking whether to change/black the side step plates Confused California F1, 75th 110 "Kermit", 50th Ann V8, 90 V8 Hybrid, 55 Series 1

Ah right, that sounds sensible - better than sling it on and wack a few rivets in.

Just need to decide on black or silver now then.

Quick update,, Now 1400 miles, and back to the dealers this week for a ABS/TRACS light fault,
Both have only come on twice, first time a few weeks back, when around 600 miles, then again last week, both going off, when switched off, then restarted, Dealer had for a couple of hours, and cleaned up the l/h front sensor,, will see if that cures it Rolling Eyes

Fuel consumption has not been as good as JSG,s, only around the 22mpg, but that included about 900 miles of towing !! but its better that any TD5 i have previously had !!! California F1, 75th 110 "Kermit", 50th Ann V8, 90 V8 Hybrid, 55 Series 1

Hi,, hard to really tell, its been fitted to the last 4/5 110's,, but would guess its 3/4 mpg ?? maybe !!

The last tank full, has not seen any towing, and feels better, but either way, is more that i ever got from a TD5 !! mush be my right foot !! California F1, 75th 110 "Kermit", 50th Ann V8, 90 V8 Hybrid, 55 Series 1
