its been along time coming but at long last my defender is running better than I could have hoped for.
a recent service, replacement rear propshaft, replacement handbrake cable which involved pretty much rebuilding the handbrake drum and replaced MAP sensor and things are great. I'm now just understanding how smooth gear changes can be, realising you can crawl along in 1st gear without lurching forward and how its is possible to easily determine that the turbo does actually work..... its GREAT !! mechanically I just hope it continues. now to ensure the chassis doesn't rot around the wonderful mechanics. - I hope thats sold it to you cause its up for sale - please refer to topic for selling. only joking. there's no way I'm selling this now.....I'm just gonna enjoy it. next task (as well as anti corrosion) is to arrange my trip to Spain for a few days |

I echo BM52's sentiments and I am really pleased that at last your troubles are over and your vehicle is right! I am sure that you'll find it was worth the effort.
I only wish mine was the same - like BM52 I seem to have picked up the gremlins you have purged!
It is spooky that I could have written the exact same thing! |

sorry that you're not having much fun at the moment and know how frustrating it can be.
if you are suspicous of the egr personally I'd consider putting the original map back on to see if the clean cycle is performed. with the egr shut is should be pretting clean and as such I've have though this would still work no probs. if it does and as mentioned before you can hear operate while reving the engine (or if you can install a blank) I would have though this eliminates the egr. still leaves loads of different things to check but hopefully the above basic test will eliminate the egr. if as reviewed before the fuel pressure is ok then then hopefully that eliminates the fuel to the engine. if there's no signs of leakage around the injectors and it runs smoothly (if only for a bit here and there) personal I'd say the injectors are ok. which would lead me to sensors and wiring. all very basic tests that I'd be looking to do - I'm not suggesting for one second the above is right but its just what I'd do. good luck.[/i] |

Ha ha. How long before you imagine - sorry notice - a noise, vibration, loose or missing whatchyamecallit, tiny bit of corrosion or other mysterious somethingorother that will prompt a minor panic and flurry of posts Steve.
Owned numerous Land Rover vehicles of all shapes and sizes over the decades. Current Defender: A non tarts hand-bagged Puma 110 XS USW. [Insert something impressive here such as extensive list of previous Land Rovers or examples of your prestigeous and expensive items, trinkets, houses, bikes, vehicles etc] http://forums.lr4x4.com I used to be Miserable ...but now I'm ecstatic. |

Now you mention it I fear there may be a whatchymacallit missing.....how many do you have?
Joking aside all is good and any more problems you'll be the first to know.....i have your pm details Hope yours is going well? I also have moved rot than I care for but it's just had a good dose of acf50. Hopefully next year a clean and dinitrol. Before that however I might get a drl bumper and roof rack. Upgrade of the stereo. Heated rear seats and inverter should keep me happy for a while. |
