Bad earths can sometimes make the lights do weird things! Something as simple as going over a bump can correct the fault as well!

You're not quite mad ... it may well of had a resisted feed to the headlight bulbs when sidelights were on and ignition also on ... headlight bulbs would of glowed dimly along with sidelight operation.
Standard fitment on nearly all later variants of TD5 and current TDCI ..... Is yours an early TD5 or the later version ? Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant. |

Mine has done this recently,I had a bad side light bulb/connection,so I thought it just put the headlights on a low setting as well as the remaining sidelight, swapped the bulb, cleaned the connector and the headlights now stays off and only the sidelights come on Pov.spec,ftw. 2006, 110,TD5.

Perhaps it wasn't a dream.. was the key in position II?
When my light switch melted and stopped working, the sidelights still worked and the headlights had a dim glow despite the switch only bring on position I, it was probably current leaking from position I to II inside the switch.. |

Some vehicles had the dim dip thing. usually the big resistor under the RH wing breaks causing it to stop.

Seem to remember it occurring for the first few years I had the car then just noticed it not doing it. Very confused now, wondering whether to go check resistors and stuff..........or reserve place in nearest OFH?!!

My 04 Td5 had dim dip, one day it worked, then I didn't. Think yours could be similar.

I have a 2006 TD5 - when the sidelights are on with the ignition, there is a low level light also on in the main headlight.
When the ignition is off, but the sidelights left switched on, only the side lights are lit. Not sure if this is right or not |
