In my other post http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic24816.html I refer to the lower ride height of my 90.
One of the casualties this weekend was the centre box of the exhaust. I always thought it was a bit low and managed to crush it like a tin of beans on a rock that was a bit higher than I calculated. I need to replace it, and wondered about a straight pipe. I'm not keen on making it too loud, but if it removes a low hanging centre box, I'd be happy. Any recommendations..? Cheers Simon |

I had, an Alive cherry bomb center pipe, was very nice, and much nicer level of noise than no middle box at all, and both these systems with a rear box in system.

Thanks guys, I've had a quick look at FirstFour, they have the middle replacement pipes for around £60 delivered.
I only want to replace it because its damaged and want something that is less likely to be hit by rocks etc...I'd rather it be as quiet as the original, but I guess that isn't possible. Ill certainly keep the rear box, but the impact on the middle box was so hard, it pushed the rear pipe/box and has kinked the pipe where it goes over the rear axle, so need a new one of those too...! cheers simon |

Oooo yeah, de-cat and straight through centre pipe gives the TD5 a delicious sound, especially at full tilt and in towns with narrow streets and tunnels. Down side is it does drone at lower RPMs though.
I removed mine as it also had a run-in with a rock tin opener... Made a horrendous noise. Check your exhaust mounts haven't been bent out of shape and that the down pipe hasn't been wrenched from the exhaust manifold. |

I've ordered the pipe, should be here tomorrow. Hope it's not too noisy, else it'll be in the For-Sale section ASAP...!
I've check the down pipe, the flex link looks a little out of shape, but sounds ok. Cheers Simon |

Not had chance To fit it, as when I went to replace it I found that the rear section had also been bent due to the force of the impact.
I had to order that section too, which has only just arrived. A job for the next day or two....along with the HD springs to recover some of the lost ride height. Cheers Simon |

That's good to hear, as I'm a bit concerned over the potential increase in noise.

If concerned about noise, fit the alive middle section that has cherry bomb in. I changed mine from standard, to no cat straight through middle section, standard rear, but was too boomy on motorway runs. So brought alive cherry mid section and was perfect, all the performance, nice noise, no boom.

It will take you a while to get board of your new system, I found that I could get 100 miles less per tank, just by listening to the exhaust
