My EGR valve is making A screeching noise when I am driving along. It is a very similar noise to the self clean it performs when you switch the engine off, which seems to be louder than usual.
I'm guessing the valve needs changing? Is it something that needs to be done immediately I.e will it damage anything. 90 Defender 2.4 Puma Thanks in advance. Simon |

Thanks. Has anyone changed one? I've done a few on rwd transits which can be a bit fiddly.

Hi Simon,
do a quick search on here and you will be floored by how much chat there has been over the EGR valve - so that will keep you reading for a wee while Some great posts with pictures on EGR removal, and lots of debates on how to clean the valve etc. I took a slightly diffrent route and electronicly isolated the valve with a BAS remap and it has been great. Thanks. I will have a look now.
I thought it may be a valve fault rather than it just being dirty and require cleaning. I have been toying with the idea of having a remap. Would you know if I would have to renew the faulty EGR aswell as having the remap. Simon |

Hi Simon,
there are lots of great companies here who can help adn supply quality kit - but the 2 gurus I recomend on here who can advise you on this are Pete at BAS, he supplied the Remap I had that closes the EGR leaving it in place. The other is Porny at LRB, who removes the EGR as it makes the gas flow cleaner. Both know more than I can ever imagine on the subject of tuning ... Both gents have high recomendations on the forum so again have a read though the numorous posts on the subject and ask the questions of the guys in the know and then choose your route. New EGR part number and photos are in my gallery somewhere. Not to difficult to do, just difficult access again. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

Did mine a few months ago.
Access it tight, but easy enough. I did drop one of the bolts and it landed behind the starter motor, that took me about half and hour to retrieve, but apart from that and a few scraps to my hands, all easy. I'd recommend changing sooner rather than later, if it seizes open it'll stall on idle and won't restart. Craig Rogers 2007 Puma 110 XS 2011 Evoque Coupe Dynamic Lux www.craigrogers.photography |

I would prefer to get it done this week.
I'm ringing customer care today to see if they will replace it under warranty. It expired 11/11/2013. |

Simon,
Before you buy one from LR, price one from Ford. I seem to remember my mate getting his that way and it worked out quite a bit cheaper. Jon. |
