clutch
When the 2.4 Puma is idling there is a loud rattle. When I depress the clutch pedal it goes, so I know it's the clutch. As the rattle is audible on idle does this indicate that the clutch is in need of changing NOW or can it soldier on? I got the clutch changed under warranty and the rattle was not as audible as this, only when the vehicle was turned off. Don't want the Mrs. to get stranded as it is her daily drive. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

i had the same symptoms with my 2.4, at about 60k.

was informed that it was play in the clutch/flywheel/pressure plate system and it was all replaced and now have no problems. Gear changes whilst still 'quirky' are now a lot better too.

Unfortunately didn't get through the warranty but pretty sure I got stitched up & it should have done!- have since had an apology from the dealer(not their fault)/Land Rover and they do their very best whenever they hear my name now! Cheers, David

Mine was done in may 2010, vehicle was 2 years old and 31,000 kms on the clock. Now 5 years old and 80,800 kms on the clock.50,000 KMS (30,000 MILES) does not seem very long for a clutch to last.Just wondered what's the longest anyone has let a clutch rattle go on for. No bother changing gear so far.
I remember the trials and tribulations you suffered! Like everyone else I was glad when you got it sorted. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Seems to be no rhyme or reason to the Puma clutch. Some last forever under hard usage and others have had more than one changed. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Yes 'generally' they seem to be much better after their first replacement though.

I think more recently too dealers better know what the problems are and are fitting a newer style replacement? Cheers, David

I have e-mailed the dealer who did the warranty work replacement and asked for the part numbers of the parts they used.I'd like to know if revised parts were fitted. Anyway if it can be driven for another 50,000 kms with the rattle I'll be happy enough Laughing 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

also bare in mind that the part would have had a 1or1.5 year warranty, even if its out of its part warranty then my dealer said that it failing so soon (2/3 years etc) would be evidence of a fault, and not being 'abused'/'wear and tear' so you've a better chance of getting it through your warranty if you have it, the earlier it fails

mine (original) was rejected for warranty at 4yr/50k, but dealer said if it fails again then it will pretty certainly go through warranty unless its had 50/60/70k+ miles on Cheers, David
