Exhaust Upgrade
Thinking about exchanging the centre box for a straight pipe, thus keeping the smaller rear box in place. Any advice from someone that has done anything similar? Does it provide more power? Looking for a meatier sound...

Might as well get rid of cat and EGR while your at it. Won't affect MOT and will allow the engine to breath. You should notice an improvement in lower end power. Then of course a remap and you'll really notice the difference Thumbs Up 2007 TD5 90 Hard Top

No cat on a '99 TD5 but removing the EGR is a worthwhile mod. Darren

How easy is it to remove the EGR? Its already been chipped, so im not too bothered about getting every last bit of horse out of it.

I have one, only tend to put it on in the summer when I do less mileage. It sounds fantastic when driven hard or past stone walls/tunnels/boy racers etc, but it really drones when driving normally especially in long 30/40mph sections and obviously horrible on the motorway, it almost seems to resonate with the whole car, only a 10 minute swap once you've done it a few times though and worth it in my opinion Very Happy sharpens up throttle response too, although more noticeable for me as I have a stage 2 tune by irb Thumbs Up 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

Yes

Cant say I've noticed much difference, OEM had warped so replaced with the Alisport cast. Supposed to allow the turbo to spool up quicker, it might do but mine breathed fairly easily to start with Thumbs Up 2007 TD5 90 Hard Top

Thanks Smile, it seems that an relocation of the turbocharger would have made more Space to developing a better full flowing manifold, as Space is an issue here Confused -99 Td5 90 CSW

The Allisport manifold does not relocate the turbo, a standard exhaust down pipe still fits.

And to abiffen90 getting rid of the centre box will slightly improve performance and will make your Defender sound much better.
