Australia 2008 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 SW Stornoway Grey
Puma not starting
This morning when I turned they key the starter operated very slowly - just like a flat battery. I tried it a second time and it operated as normal. This has been the pattern all day.

Has anyone else has this occur? I can take it to the dealer, of course, but I would like to find the problem first.

yes what he said ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ i had this simular with mine was caused by the terminals loose on the battery posts. Try misshaping the lead posts (Only a little) then re fitting the terminals to the posts then tighten up then see if you still have the same problem. If you do this is not the cause of your problem. Yesterday afternoon the engine refused to crank at all. Land Rover Assist sent a mechanic around last night and he diagnosed starter motor problems.

They arranged to tow it to the dealer where it is now. They will be unlikely to start work until after Easter. I am not annoyed, but it has occurred to me that the cost of keeping the Defender may be prohibitive after the warranty expires. I have had a new clutch, turbo, transfer box bearings but have yet to need new diffs and gearbox. It is only a matter of time.

My previous drive was a TD5 and this didn't have under-engineered Ford components.

Having said that, I drove my wife's FL2 to work today. It's more comfortable, faster, quieter and NO-one overtook me! But I NEED the Defender. There is absolutely nothing else quite as satisfactory as a Puma. I love it.

I agree. Not nice to buy a key component such as any driveline bit. The most scary stuff for me would be a TC or this unknown gearbox. I would say diffs are more common on the market. Puma 110" SW

aftermarket electronics
I had starting issues but this was due to aftermarket electronics drawing current after the ignition was switched off. ignorance is bliss...
