It would be good to have a clicky box on each post with the word 'like' or 'agree' we could then simply click the 'box' if we agree or like someone's comment. (I would have clicked the 'like' button in LandRoverAnorak's post above)

I suppose we could also have other buttons to click for instance 'pointless' 'wow great idea' 'you're annoying' any other ideas?
Would this feature cut down on band width or whatever its called?

There are arguments for and against this, it is not something that is a simple feature to switch on in the current forum software.

For me personally the negatives are that I think it leads to laziness and stifles discussions and comment, and is likely to be abused by a few who go around thanking everyone for everything, which happens on a lot of forums. It can also turn into competitive thanking where certain members press thanks/like against all their buddies' posts and vice versa - which is pointless and untidy.

On the positive side it's could be a good way to generate a marker to flag up posts of special note and which could be stickied or otherwise have further attention drawn to it.

I do also think it's better to thank someone personally and take the time to reply rather than just clicking a button Wink  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

Some helpful topics should be pinned at the top of a forum. However if they become date expired they should be cut loose.

However I dislike forums which have masses of pinned threads at the head of a forum. Say a max of 3-4 topics pinned

Would it be possible to have a separate section for pinned helpful threads?

So I suppose the big problem is deciding what should be pinned and how to manage them so that minimal housekeeping is required.

^^ I agree completely with Brendan about having a separate section for older pinned posts. Quite often the whole act of pinning a post becomes becomes diluted as you then have to search many (some rather old!) pinned posts Thumbs Up An engine to TDi for!

Could it maybe be possible to like a thread, and then sort by most likes? Cheers, David
