Right,

Best time to sell is when snow is forecast although when has a "man " decision about landrovers got anything to do with do I need 2020 P300 HSE

I have a few cars, but always prefer to take the Defender.
My advice is, unless you need the money keep it, as you'll be sorry to lose it after all that work you put into it. You have built it to a great spec, just for your needs. If you never intend to drive it, then I guess it doesn't make sense, but I'd hate to be without mine. Just my 2c cheers simon ps To answer your question, yes now would be a good time to sell.. |

The thing I think about is that although the Defender has great offroad ability, if the roads are snow covered and its cold and icy, would I rather go out in the RR with all the electronic aids for driving in such conditions, rather than the Defender which has none!?? 2016 D4 HSE

Yeah, I know. I have a D4 and am very confident about its abilities in bad weather. But the Defender feels more bullet proof (it does have ABS/TC though), and in reality in bad snow, its the other cars/trucks that block the roads that are the problem. More often than not I'm stuck because the road is blocked by cars/trucks not the snow.
In the Defender I feel more comfortable when cars are sliding around, a few more dents on the Defender wont matter...on the D4 I'd be a bit miffed...! Its nice to have the choice in my view, but as I said, if you're never going to use it.... cheers and good luck simon |

^^I'd agree with that. A Defender gives you more faith in the snow, and even with all the terrain response systems on the RR's/Disco's I'd rather be in the Defender! An engine to TDi for!

If you can afford to keep it and its only lack of useage making you sell it then dont. I've done this with bikes, thinking I only need one, but lo and behold a few months after getting rid I find myself thinking."ooh, I wish I had xxxx bike now" and before you know it I'm buying a replacement which costs me more to get back to the standard I want than I got for the one I sold.
But if do sell it, let me know because I've watched this thread admiringly and would be interested |

And there lies the answer to why there are so many accidents once the weather turns.(Not aimed at you by the way) Everyone sits there snug in there own little world with traction control, abs etc. Remember going up the M6 last year by Stafford in blizzard conditions, the usual Audi's etc still doing 90 and then round the corner a pile up. Mr Audi man got out and promptly landed on his butt The older the Land Rover the worse the heater, so you appreciate the conditions more Back on topic - If it doesn't owe anything then why sell it? You have invested alot of time and effort, and reading this thread enjoyed it all. You run a supercharged FFRR so for the price of 4 tanks of juice it must be road ready for 12 months??? |

1. Its costing you not a lot. 2. Its not really depreciating, might possibly appreciate in the next few years?. 3. From your pictures, it seems to be under cover? 4. You have put a LOT of work into it. 5. It is very desirable, you will only miss it if you sell it. 6. Your Range Rover is very nice, but what if you need to go to the tip with a smelly bin bag? I have a brand new D4 HSE Luxury, along with a 2002 TD5 90 CSW, and a 1966 Series 2a. I have no problem with the fact that the S2 did less than 700 miles last year. My wife often takes the D4 in preference to her Fiat 500, in which case I have to drive the Defender some distance, and I really don't mind! I use the RR for everything anyway, so going to the tip, going shooting, having muddy people and dogs on board etc is just the norm.

Just sat and read through the full 23 pages of your thread, you have a fantastic defender, one of my favourites! I love all the subtle modifications you've done, has to be one of the best td5 hardtops about.
On a side note, i can't be too far from yourself, donnington is my local track, I'll keep an eye out for you! |

Okay, I've just read your thread for the first time - I really like to see how people choose their different mods - I wouldn't dream of "messing around" with other cars in the way I do with the Defender - I love it
Between myself and SWMBO we have a few cars (well not quite all cars, as one is a VW camper), and I like them all for different reasons - if you don't need to sell it I'd hold on - mind you at circa 18 to the gallon (I'm guessing) and heavy depreciation, the running costs on the RR SC could be eye watering. One thing about the Defender, you don't have to think about depreciation - with most cars, its the biggest cost by far. Great thread - keep the Defender! |
