Rear sliding windows

Two questions here, one a practical one the other just for my interest.

1] Spent a long time yesterday cleaning the sliding windows on my 90 - used a Karcher steam cleaner to get rid of algae which had collected on the bottom seals [where the window slides] - but still there is some dirt and algae left where the windows overlap. Is there an easy way to clean these properly ?

2] On cleaning the glass I noticed there were hard spots on the glass that actually seem to be physically bound to the glass surface, it is not simply hard to remove dirt. My thoughts were this could have been the result of welding at some point - though I am not experienced and this is conjecture. My 90 is a conversion - could this have anything to do with any welding ?

with regards to point 2 - it may well be a melted piece of glass from a welding torch or most likely an angle grinder. The hot sparks shoot off and can melt into the glass. A good reason to properly cover up and protect paintwork and glass when welding/grinding.
