Rear demister issue - TDI
Have a 97 300 TDI CSW and amazingly the rear window demister actually works. The down side is it won't stop working. When the switch is off it will randomly come on, lighting up the annunciator lamp even when the ignition key is out. This has drained the battery several times. I have disconnected the heater array, removed the fuse which seemed to have burned and the light is still coming on. Any ideas?

Get a multimeter on the thing!

Check at the fuse box if power is at the fuse when it is off. I don't believe they are meant to have power permanently - only switch power (ignition switched).

My initial thoughts are some sort of wire chafing or similar.

Need to get the meter out and follow the power back really.
