Right I am ashamed to say this but I was trying to fit it incorrectly Embarassed

I was fitting the brackets on the outside of the chassis rails instead of the inside - doh

I can't believe I did not try it that way.

Mystery solved

Thanks for all your advice and input.

I think most us of have done something like that at one time or another but most of us don't admit to it !!

At least you are all sorted now - well done.

Yup - wasted a good hour swearing at my guard when I got it.

Stomped off for a cup of tea and when I came back to the car it was suddenly obvious Embarassed

Should have thought to mention it. Sorry One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS

Interesting this as I'm about to order a steering guard for my 90 (Puma). Any comments on the pro's/ con's of one brand over the other? I've pretty much decided on either a Devon 4x4 or Rebel 4x4. Are there any possible warranty issues for not fitting official LR part? E.g., could it affect engine cooling etc? Dumb questino perhaps, but I'd rather check... Whistle

If you get one with vents in...it will be no worse than the solid plate ones from LR.

There shouldnt be any warranty issues. Mike

I fitted a Mantec guard to my 2004 Discovery 2 and it was the worst job to do and the front end had to come off including spotlights and bar and front bumper, washers and loom... adds no value either. 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..

Oh dear... is your tax return late again? The relevance is a Defender steering guard is a doddle in comparison to other vehicles, so much so you can do it in half the time.
Sorry if i mentioned another make of vehicle, at least it was a Land Rover though!!! 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..

Red Dot. To be fair you did not make your post very clear did you Rolling Eyes the lads made a few.... er snide remarks in jest to your vague post Thumbs Up You then returned with a damming response referencing 'An Other' vehicle making out that the previous remarks were pro Defender presumably trying to belittle the posters. I know that both Sonic and Discocuzzy both have owned Discoverys and believe me they have no issues with 'An Other' make of vehicle as you call it.

Perhaps you should read your first post and re-think your response. I have read and re read your first post and I can not see any relevance to a Defender in your comment.

I fitted a Mantec guard to my 2004 Discovery 2 and it was the worst job to do and the front end had to come off including spotlights and bar and front bumper, washers and loom... adds no value either.  130's have feeling's as well you know Smile

Cripes! Shocked

Ok, I'll def give the Discovery Steering Guard a miss then Wink I'm only playing Laughing
I need to fit one as it's been recommended by the event organiser, so not looking to gain value etc.. To be honest, I don't think many accessories really add value - I'm just looking to save the risk of losing money if the steering gets a whack...

So any views re Devon or Rebel? Or makes no difference? Both equally easy to fit for a spanner-numpty like me?
