Very timely topic for me as my order went in this week... I was going to ask similar so, assuming Vince doesn't mind, I'll tag my question on here.
As none of this stuff will have been done on a new vehicle, does anyone have a parts list for things such as: Ball bearings - number (OK, I can work this bit out!) and size? Cable lock - approx length Internal earth - I'm assuming this is additional short (but how short?) battery lead off -ve to existing or new bolt? etc.... Basically I'd like to spend a day taking care of the basics but without the vehicle sat in front of me it's difficult to know which parts to buy in advance. |

Additional earth needs to come off the battery negative to a ground point within the battery box (in case battery earth is cut from outside)
Unfortunately the existing negative terminal doesn't lend itself to adding cables (difficult to explain but easy to see ) I cut mine off and fitted a new clamp on one, not sure how that would affect warranty though |

More the merrier! On the thought of ball bearings in the hinge bolts - what about instead of that or drilling them out - filling the void with solder?! - could melt the solder out if needed but should have the same effect of slowing them down. |

Is there already a convenient ground in there, or is it out with the power drill on day one?

As Matt has said, layers, layers and hidden layers is the best approach!
To get you started, here's some things to think about (other manufacturers, sellers available...!): Gear stick locks: http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic17501.html?highlight=security Door security: http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic17266.html?highlight=security Peddle locks: http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic7162.html?highlight=security Window tinting: http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic5258.html?highlight=security Spare wheel security: http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic19033.html?highlight=security Trackers: Have a search... ![]() ...and a big dog ![]() |

Solder isn't practical for many reasons, and the big advantage of the 5mm or 3/16" ball-bearing is that it cannot easily be drilled out. A cordless drill will remove the setscrew heads in seconds if the recess is simply filled. |

Thanks guys - that's all really good stuff.
![]() Looks like I have some shopping to do before it gets here. Quite enjoy a bit of tinkering, so not really viewing it as too much as a hardship spending a bit of time getting the know the Landy (will be interesting to see how much has changed from my S3!). |
