Fantastic place to go - it's on my 'must do list'.
I've not done any proper trips off-road over there but I spent some time working in Wellington and Auckland with a previous company and went out with a couple of our local guys in a Toyota and did some tracks and beach driving in the evenings. our kid was out there earlier in the year.. He met up with local club, they took him on weekend trip...Can get contact details if needed. Putting Dreams on Drives at JLR Solihull..
