Sensible question - is there a list of bits out there?

Dont think that any parts are shared (could be wrong though) The engine is not the same as the Transit.

The engine in the 2007 + Defender is a variant of the Ford Puma. The Puma Diesel has been used in lots of vehicles. 130's have feeling's as well you know Smile

You can share (RWD or 4WD Transit):

- oil filter
- A lot of gasket (inlet manifold, head cover, vacuum pump,...)
- vacuum pump
- Front timing chain cover
- air con support
- water pump
- fuel rail
- Common rail reliefe valve and regolation valce
- Gearbox (rwd Transit)
- slave clutch cylinder
- Pistons
- piston rings, conrod,.....
- lower bearing support
- .......

The list is very long....

Time ago I'have checked with both Micorcat Discovery 5 td6 HSE Stornoway Gray Outback Engineering Limited Edition

Thanks, this is interesting since hear the Ford Transit is vey popular not like the defender , and i am sure that most of the pats will be cheaper at Ford dealers

Thought I'd mention that Ford also put the crappy MT82 Chinese gearbox in new Mustangs - and the owners aren't happy Rolling with laughter Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing...

So, the gearbox is the same, as the transits'(the same?), but what about clutch?

Clutch is different. It's dual mass on a transit.

I seem to remember the gearbox uses a different sized bell-housing with a few other minor differences (something Dave Ashcroft said) - also AWD and RWD versions (?) but don't quote me... Tell someone you love them today because life is short.

I think the bell housing is the same as it is part of the main gearbox casing . but output housing is different because it has to bolt to transfer box.
lots of talk on here about how bad the mt82 box is ..but we have worked on hundreds of transits and can only think of one box problem and that was only last week .. and a lot of the transits are worked hard '
now transits and timing chain problems that's another matter done hundreds of them. fleet vans , courier vans, van hire firms BUT not so many owner drivers think they tend to look after better and not rev the n-ts out of them
chain tensioner loses it ratchet mech . and jumps teeth on inlet cam . if your lucky (very very) they break bolts that hold rockers down BUT can pull bolt out of head cracking the head .
SORRY GONE OFF TOPIC A BIT HERE!

What I found out more recently from LR Germany is:
"Das Getriebe des Land Rover Defender MJ 2011 MT82 wird von Getrag in Köln hergestellt, das Verteilergetriebe LT230 von Land Rover in England. Leider können wir Ihnen nicht sagen, in welchem Werk"

Roughly translated:
"The MT82 gearbox is made by Getrag in Cologne and the transfer box by LR in England, but we don't know which site"

So, in summary, the crap MT82s in Mustangs are made in China but ours aren't Thumbs Up
I also have to say that, almost a year later and having tried the gearbox in a G-Wagon and a Patrol, I'm used to mine and it isn't that bad at all Smile

Cheers
Mutt

p.s. I was also told that the few uprated parts in the 3.2 gearbox probably wouldn't make so much difference to the "quality" Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing...
