I would never use anything other than genuine. Even with my cossies they were Ford Motorsport ones

I've popped two 'genuine' gaskets in the last two years. I solved it by selling the truck. 8 years with a TD5 - never again...

Sounds like you had other issues... warped head? any engine would let go with that.
