you can cut them out of plate but it will have the same problem as your current dropouts. The Axle in a geared hub naturally wants to rotate and if free to do so will chew away at the metal. A cast dropout or something replaceable would be your best bet in the long term.

Ceeway (http://www.framebuilding.com) have a huge range. Or have a look and some of the Paragon works dropouts. www.td5.org

If you made your own you could make a screw on replaceable section on them where they wear. I think most originals are drop forged.

Many thanks for the advice guys.

I have anti-rotation washers that came with the SRAM hub (geared and braking) - hence the new direction for the slot. However, I'm worried that plate won't be hard enough on a torqued-up tandem, even for them.

Ceeway look promising (great link) and I'll check out Ragley and Nukeproof as well tomorrow.

Bow down Bow down Bow down

Cheers

Forgot to say - that was my idea too, until I realised the middle chainstay join had cracked (see photo), the whole structure was weak and I should replace the whole thing Big Cry

Cheers Thumbs Up
