i have experienced the same disappointing attitude from main dealers sales staff.
it makes you wonder if its a defender initiation test? if you pass the test then you will also put up with the typical defender idiosyncracies (sp?). james and jeremy don't make you take that test because you are already on this forum; my money would go to them if i was in the market for a new vehicle |

Until I read the responses to my post I had never heard of Hadley Green but all credit to their sales team for responding so promptly and displaying an interest in doing business. This approach certainly stands out amongst what I have experienced over the past few weeks. I rarely venture as far South as London and was looking for a supplier in the North who wasn't a full day's drive away and wanted both the sale and a few years of servicing and parts.
Memo to self - Do more homework on the forum and listen to those who have more experience, before wasting time driving around the countryside speaking to people who waste my time and serve foul coffee. |

A couple of dealership's sales staff have alluded to 'the quota' and that they can sell them all without discount. This amuses me as most country folk like a deal of some sort with a feel good gesture thrown in for good measure. I wasn't expecting the discount structure that applies to high volume, mass market shopping cars but I've never paid list price for any vehicle. I'm rather puzzled how some forum members appear to be purchasing new Defenders through independent car dealers - do they get discounted terms? A colleague at work also mentioned using a broker as he appeared to make a decent saving on another model of 4X4. As Defender production heads towards the history books I just thought this might be my final chance to purchase a new one and go out and have some fun in between work and more work. |

Don't give up - you will get what you want if you are prepared to make a deal.....I hope.
I haven't had your experience and in my area all dealerships have been keen to make a deal. In the end, I was very happy with the deal I got: good discount, full tank of fuel (75l) plus first service free and good communication at all stages. When I came to pick it up, the Defender had pride of place in the showroom, in front of a Range Rover, covered by a large cloth, which was then removed to reveal it, like something exotic, put a big smile on my face. 1970 Series 2A 88" |

How far up north are you? We supply a lot of vehicles to forum customers all over the country and are happy to collect you from Luton or Heathrow airport then release you onto the M1 to head home! If you would like me to price you up a vehicle (naturally we discount for forum members!) them please let me know. If you do go through a broker or independent dealer remember they still source through the dealer network (often ourselves) then add their bit in top. Let me know if we can do anything to help and thank you to all the above for the kind comments and support |

This just seems to reinforce the thinking that if you want a decent deal and an appreciation of your custom - then you have to head South.
I had previously been up in the central belt of Scotland and been offered £500 off the list price of a new Defender, a long story about quotas and could they interest me in something sitting on the showroom floor, that bore no resemblance to my requirements. I developed a feeling that Defenders weren't really very popular or of much interest in that part of Scotland. Some very inconsistent experiences from forum members regarding purchasing a new Defender have been posted. Thanks to everyone for sharing their thoughts and experiences (and indeed the offer to discuss a possible deal). This seems a great forum in terms of folk willing to inform those who are just starting on their Defender journey. |
