Parrot Asteroid Fitting
Are any extra cables required to fit a Parrot Asteroid Classic to the defender, or is it as easy as pulling out existing head unit and putting in the Parrot kit (Then sorting all its problems :O)!

Anyone taken any photos of the install, in a 2.4 Puma? Carried out a search and can't see the answer to this, thanks.

Hard to say but on what you mention it should be simple. If you intend to use an iPod or other device you may need a cable for that but you might have one with it. Other members have or have had them on here, they'd be in a better position to comment.

Yes it fits. I had to just file the dash a little to get its metal holder in place was a little tight.

I think it looks cool as well, fit a sub and the sound is pretty good.

Fits to plugs without need of an adapter.

With the latest update it's great. Just make sure you follow instructions when updating. There's more to it than just pressing update with dongle plugged in. You also have to delete and then reconnect it to your iphone.

Also unlike your units you get all the leads you need. Connect your phone with the Bluetooth which works really well. You can stream music which is great. Also set your phone as hotspot and you get google maps on the screen.

Brilliant thanks guys, It's mainly the ipod function & handsfree I'm looking for, if it manages to do anything else it's a bonus. like the idea of having the screen showing the album artwork on it.

I use a work phone, so it's the work data it will be using, might not want to use it too much!

It should do that just fine, if I was you make sure your iPod is fully updated before you update the Parrot too. Saves any possible niggles. Thumbs Up No Guts, No Glory.

Yeah I don't bother with the maps. But the music and the hands free I use everyday. They have done a lot of updates so make sure you have the latest one.

If you get a call incoming it says their name and you just say accept or reject it works really well.

I fitted myself, dead easy.

Standard ISO connectors come with and comes with DIN cage which I too found to be a squeeze, but 2/3 mins of filing down did the trick Smile

Tricky bit/bit you have to decide about it's where to route the iPod/3.5mm/USB cables out to, I brought them out into the passenger side 'cubby' area, as well as running an iphone 5 cable to the dash top near the drivers side tweeter.

A straightened out coat hanger is your friend for these bits. Or you can just run them out at the bottom of the centre console.

See pics:

Sorry - dunno what's going on with the upside down photos! It does it if I go on my PC or my phone, doesn't seem to matter which. Hopefully you get the idea though.

It's very simple. And I love it, lots of USB Inputs, great (market best IMO) BT hands free and streaming, Internet (I don't use it but could be handy I guess) Cheers, David

Excellent thank you, did you need a special tool to remove the standard headunit?

Yes now I think of it, was a Censored to remove because mine had been bent by previous owner.

Halfords or equivalent will sell the little tools you need. (I actually just asked to 'borrow' it because I was buying some other things too and they did it for me, but it should be easy enough)

Think they were ford type keys if I remember Cheers, David

Does the Asteroid have the facility to take a video feed (from a reversing camera..?) and display that on the screen..?

I'm looking for a single DIN unit that can do this.

cheers
