What would be the best winch to go for . Its for a 130 mainly self recovery .

I got a 10k lbs Smitty Bilt.
Warn, you pay the brand. Tabor has chinese made motor whereas warn has brazilian made motor. IMHO, Smitty, Ironman, Tabor, T-max, etc are made by the same factory and stick different labels on Puma 110" SW ............................................................. Earth first. Warn 8274
Fast, the motor is high up, easy to get parts for, tons of power. Think of it as a investment~ You can move it to any future vehicle and if you decide to ever sell it you will get most of your money back second hand. |

i wouldn't go for another 8274 personally, it is just a bit too fast IMHO, if you are stuck in a challenge 90 it's a light vehicle and can cope with it. a 130 on the other hand would be far from light, especially if you've got a load of kit on board, and that winch lacks the grunt needed to pull you out of a bog. i've found that you rarely need speed when winching, i would prefer to have control that goes with a slower winch.
i'd go hydraulic if you could, (not too sure i can spell mind) or a powerplant.  |

low line has to be a goodwinch goldfish tds about £400 and its all there
or a twin motor 8274 if you want super speed im definatly geting a tds for the rear of my truck when i got the pennys ? ring goodwinch david bowyer will sort you out regards steve 2015 2.2 tdci hardtop xs 3.2 conversion DONE 238bhp and 707nm torque and thats just the start ;-P hybrid turbo in build -done ready to fit ashcroft atb in transfer box 6 speed auto in build |

 ...they don't get much more reliable, and there are loads out there (just need to know what you are looking for ).
8274 is an awesome winch but as Alex says it is aimed more for speed (such as competitions). I know quite a few people who have got cheap winches off the net and they have been fine......for 6 months to a year and then they have started to rust and start to get niggly faults- like the saying- Buy cheap, Buy twice.
For a reasonable price quality winch David is the best source. Glyn |

You see winches and wheels....soo many opinions (almost like tyre choice!)
Still has to be a warn. My problem, ever since having it, ive not needed it, which can be good or bad. Its probably been used 2 maybe 3 times - the ti has good sealing, but i also keep mine in a cover to aid sheading the elements. Personally i would go warn or at a push goodwinch (although im not a fan). Many people run the cheaper ones...but somewhere lower quality will bite - take your money its all about choice, cost, use, maintenance etc Mike |

the good winch you can up rate everything on ?
its like an 8274 mines got twin 6.8hp motors on it ! there is nothing stoping you putting that on a tds goldfish winch plust it has no problem working fully submerged ring gigglepin and jj will sell you a goldfish tds over a warn 9.5xp ? plus yes good tyres means posibly you wont need a winch 2015 2.2 tdci hardtop xs 3.2 conversion DONE 238bhp and 707nm torque and thats just the start ;-P hybrid turbo in build -done ready to fit ashcroft atb in transfer box 6 speed auto in build |

I beat the crap out of my TDS over xmas doing heavy commercial recovery in the snow - long, heavy pulls for hours at a time - and it coped admirably. Its pretty quick as standard without being worryingly so when precision is needed. Extremely well made (like all King One winches are - ahem
 ) and very easy to strip and service. Good price too, would get my vote again.

I'm going for another 12,000lb PowerPlant for my 130. This will be the 3rd one I will have fitted. The previous 2 were on a D3 and my current 110. They aint the fastest but fair play they take everything in their stride.

I think different if you have good tyres and you get stuck, you are really stuck, not just on a slippery slope.  Roel

for self recovery on the occasional use i would be looking at a TDS Goldfish from Bowyer, either a 9.5 or 12000lb version - depending if the truck is likely to be loaded when it gets stuck! 130s can be very heavy.
They are good value for money and work bloody well with low current draw so you dont need to worry too much about extra batteries etc. We have run a 12000lb TDS on the rear of the challenge truck for two years and its never missed a beat working in some arduous conditions and submerged etc whilst competing in the Howlin Wolf and Santas Challenges. You can upgrade them as you see fit with large drums, air freespool, Bows 2 motors etc etc. Alot of guys are now running these as mid winches or rear winches in pref to the warn ones (less the 8274 which is used when speed with light load is important). Another vote for the TDS series from me, I use the 9500 with a synthetic line and it never let's me down. If I was to change anything I'd maybe go for the 12000 rated one next time though as a lot of my recoveries are of heavily bogged down vehicles at the off-road site and double/triple line pulls are often reqired!
