2016 Defender 110 Puma 2.2 XS CSW Aintree Green
My XS 90
Hi there chaps, I’ve had the car for just over 2 months now. I've done just over 2700 miles in the beast, no problems yet, its all ok apart from being a little bouncy (Might be something to do with the 19" disco wheels) Whistle

My mods so far are, hub adaptors to fit the disco3 wheels on (Cheers Dad), JVC head unit with built in DVD player, remote screen for DVD player and laptop, upgraded the standard speakers and added a sub and last but by no means least, Bell Auto Services have done a remap, speed restrictor removal, EGR blanking and put a de-cat pipe on Twisted Evil I'd like to say thanks to Pete at Bell Autos for sorting it out, great improvement Bow down Thumbs Up

Looks good. How do you rate the JVC ? What speakers did you fit and it all a straight swap over with no extra head unit leads needed ?

cheers

I'd like to upgrade the audio in my 110 as it is crap!

Thinkin new CD tuner with 2 way speakers in the front but reckon it needs some bass, anyone fitted a sub that doesn't take up too much load space? Andy

Upgrade to an Alpine unit which only takes ipod and radio as a source, brilliant unit even with standard speakers also went for an Alpine mini sub which fits under rear seats(110 utility} which makes the sound better, which for it's size good.

Hi Andy

The head unit is IDA-X001 and the sub is SWE-1000. The sub can be a bit boomy from bass guitars so it needs to be wired into the sub output on the stereo, mine wasn't and it needs to be done. You can alter the sub woofer levels using it's own switch but it's easier using the head unit controls.

I have got the same head unit as Markalpha, but also upgraded the front speakers to Focals and tried the then powered Alpine Sub, but to be honest found it not bassy enough in the 90 as there was nowhere to hide it and allow it to produce more bass, so changed it to a Pioneer TS-WX22A. Since I did that Alpine have released the SWE-1000 which appeas to be a similar product to the Pioneer.

It fits behind the front passenger seat on the wheel arch and is held on with yups of velcro.

Very happy with the sound now, but I would recommend upgrading the front speakers, the reason I went for the focals was they are a perfect fit in the existing holes Thumbs Up 2019 MY Disco 5 HSE Lux

I found this nifty little JVC powered sub-woofer which fits neatly behind the cubby. It is run directly off a Pioneer head unit with iPod connectivity (wired through to inside the cubby) and Bluetooth hands-free. It sounds surprisingly good. I think it helps that most of the sound is being produced up close in the cabin rather than way back in the cargo area.

Fitted a new Kenwood CD Tuner today with some upgraded Pioneer speakers in the original front and rear positions. It still sounds rubbish, an improvement but only just.

I clearly need a sub so am thinking of the Alpine SWE1000 but Halfords have the older SWM1600 on offer at £99. I reckon both will fit under the middle row bench.

I think the standard tweeters are also colouring the sound quite badly, will look at upgrading them too if I can find the Focals anywhere. Andy

Strewth, £195 for 10cm component speakers Shocked

Not sure the rest of the setup justifies the expense TBH. Andy

Which model of Focals did you fit front & rear Bogblaster?
There seem to be 10cm 100CA & 100CA1 on that site...
Did you need to modify the rear speaker cavity?
(I assume the LR supplied front & rears are the same size?)

It would be good to not have to find space for a sub - I wouldn't mind spending extra on good speakers like Focals if they boost the base a little - did you notice much of an improvement before fitting/turning on the sub?

I upgraded the rear speakers before installing the compact sub and there was no noticable difference at all. Any upgrade to the small front speakers or tweeters will only improve clarity and not provide much in the way of a broader sound spectrum. There is simply no substitute for a sub-woofer in getting better bass and fuller sound. The compact sub was the only option I could see that didn't require me to steal space from somewhere and the improvement was seriously so good, I would recommend doing that before spending anything on the smaller speakers. 2007 Defender 110

Ads 90, Sadly the Focals are not cheap, but the quality is awesome, the model I have is 100V2. They dont increase tha bass, they are only 4", but the clarity is much better and then the sub delivers the low frequency. Only replaced the front ones as the back ones are not component, just a single speaker. I see you are in the Cotswolds, so am I, PM me if you want to meet and hear it for yourself Thumbs Up

CFB, it depends how much time you spend in your truck, I do 15000 ish miles a year and I couldn't stand the tinnyness of the factory setup. 2019 MY Disco 5 HSE Lux
