Something got me pondering today.....
I would if possible like a definitive answer and not 'doom mongering' speculation! Due to availability and cost I have a standard Boost spare wheel. Now according to my calculations and the chart reference Fekete kindly gave me, my rolling radius of this spare wheel is 4.2% smaller than my other wheels. Here is the crunching question:- In the event of me having to fit said wheel what are the implications regarding potential differential damage/ABS operation and such like? Is it suitable as a get-you-home option? Thank you. ![]() Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

Could get a repair option like I've got with my motorcycle but you need to know where it's punctured to fix it. Even a can of the repair
![]() If I can source another Mach 5 I may buy it but will have to wait a while. Waiting for 'Victor' to show up and tell me my diffs will melt into a molten blob after a mere 50 centimetres of travel. Gotta laugh.... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() You're right Ken sprung to my mind as well. Was going to 'pm' a few individuals but thought there may be others in a similar situation. ![]() ![]() ![]() Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! Get a 5th on the back there! It'd look great, although with the extra length added to the truck, you might need a different category on your driving licence! (and I don't think the OE wheel cover would still fit!)

Disco me ol' matey I had the last four from Devon in that size and had searched for ages before they had a stock reconciliation and discovered they had 'em!
That said anyone got a 10x15 Mach 5 wheel 'second generation' with the rolled over edges they are willing to part with 'pm' me! TVM! If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

Mal if you have no look the other option is a 10/15 modular for a spare

Good idea Fekete,
Shall await to see if I can get a definitive anwser! If I can run with the Boost spare the £200 odd quid for the modular and tyre would buy me something else for it! For example a Mantec or Safari Snorkel! Priority next MUST be Rustmaster, am desperately trying to resist splashing on more 'bling!' Got a saint on one shoulder and a devil on t'other, each with their own agenda! ![]() ![]() ![]() Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

The Official and correct advice is never run a wheel/tyre combo with a different rolling radius on the same axle at all this also applies to a new tyre old tyre tread patterns (AT MT etc) directional mixed with Omi’s
That said I’ve seen plenty that do it’s your truck so your decision, you also need to define “get you home” How long is that from Morocco or 10miles ? Me I always have the correct size available to me plus one ready in the WS plus a few extras |

I always thought the differential would be OK to run different sized tyres as it compensates for turning and spinning with no trouble at all. Where you may experience diff wind-up is on hard surfaces with the diff lock engaged. Using a larger or smaller tyre as a spare will cause no harm unless you try to do doughnuts on a dry road. Normal driving will do no harm at all. 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..

Thank you, the last two posts are very clearly defined, comprehensive but completely at odds! I must admit Red Dot's is more comforting and the points about turning and spinning make perfect sense! Nevertheless I am still unsure, it shows how 'undefined' this issue is!
My interpretation of 'get you home' would be to the next tyre dealership or maybe 100 - 150 odd miles if I had to put a distance on it! In mitigation in nearly 30 years of driving I have only had to fit a spare away from home twice. I may seek solace from that and stick with the Boost! Windscreens on the other hand is a totally different saga I could do with carrying one of those with me as a spare! ![]() Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

I guarantee that if you run a tyre on a wheel greatly less in circumference to any of the rest you will not do any damage at all as the differentials will allow for the differences in half shaft speed, that is what they are designed to do... if you have ARB or other lock up diffs you will only damage diffs when turning on grippy surfaces but you will feel the car crabbing and struggling to turn... standard LR diffs will cope no problem. 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..
