New Heated Windscreen - Autoglass
Well, I was coming down the M5 this afternoon and something big and black hit the windscreen, just offset from the drivers view. Nice chip and 2 small hairline cracks in the glass.

I guess it's a new windscreen jobby Rolling Eyes

I had a windscreen replaced in a Ford previously and had no end of trouble with the OEM heated glass.

I know LR screens are made by Pilkington who own Autoglass but I'm loathed to have the same issues as before and will be contacting NFU on Monday because I want Autoglass to fit a genuine screen purchased via a dealer.

Has anyone on here ran into similar issues with LR glass replacement or issues with NFU in requesting such ?

Partner says I'm being picky but one of the issues with the Ford screen was that the wires in the glass were much thicker in the OEM replacement to the extent they were a distraction. I couldn't live with it again.......

I have had 3 new windscreens and 1 repair to a stone chip. All windscreens were due to warranty failures in the elements so a genuine windscreen could give you a different issue! The chip was repaired by Autowindscreens very quickly, next day if I recall to minimise any risk of cracking. BM52

Auto glass fitted a pilkington one to mine the other day.

Seems fine haven't really need to test it.

The bestest concern was the amount of water at the bottom of the screen, don't think my window frame will last too long.

I've a feeling that whatever screen Autoglass will supply and fit will be a genuine LR screen, just hasn't got any logos on it. I had one fitted in mine by Autoglass via NFU who were not remotely bothered that I had caused the damage, bit of weld splatter, nor where they bothered that I wanted to go from a standard screen to a heated one when I would pay the difference, just told me to sort it out with Autoglass. So I think it will be Autoglass that will be convincing you that they only have LR screens.

Had Autoglass do mine, but I was lucky as the fitter knew all about Defenders as he had rebuilt one. He put a line of sealant in the channel all around before the seal and windscreen. Excellent job with no problems since. Plus it fixed the leak that the LR dealer couldn't fix.
What he did say though is that it cannot be a rush job on a Defender which a lot of fitters will do as they don't understand Defenders

I've had several heated screens over the past 10-years, the first was a Pilkington but after that there have been two or three other brands supplied by the windscreen suppliers.
I have never had an issue with the elements being thicker only issues like the connections being at the bottom instead of the top for instance. I have also suffered broken elements but all the screens were the same for this and the insurance regarded this as a failure and replaced them without issue.
Never suffered a leak on any of my screens, I have always supplied my own seal (I always have them fit a new one as who knows how long it will be in place) and the BP ones have been fine with one of them being in-place for about 7-years at the last count, no sealent has ever been used either. ONE LIFE, GET IT!

Still waiting for National Windscreens to call back, even after calling again this morning to remind them Whistle In the mean time I have been to see Dave at Landyglass who has fitted one of his own heated screens for not alot more than my excess Mr. Green He also supplies Tim from the Mobile centres wiring kit which he also helped fit. Top service from a top bloke Mr. Green Thanks for the tea, excellant speedy service, insight into the Glazing world and an enjoyable afternoon Thumbs Up
