It will only be under pressure if you press the pedal. Darren

it is the switch that control the stop ligths?
If so, very easy to change. less than 10 min... Eduardo MY 2007 110 SW PUMA 2.4: Big Fog of 64' MY 1994 Jayco 1207 Folding camper: "El Tremendo" Click image to enlarge |

i'm guessing its not the one that does the lights.
would be interested to know how you get on and what symptoms you've got / had as I'm thinking of swapping this (plus map and maf sensors) myself - for piece of mind ......and hopefully some improvements too. good luck in finding your answer. |

It's the switch that goes on the master cylinder under the bonnet.
I've had rev hang on gear changes, and also when selecting low range I do not get increased revs anymore. Various people have had suggestions, will report back soon. |

thanks and again good luck.
I think you're ok so simply replace the old for new without the fluid going everywhere but I'm really not sure. |

This is a very simple job, I have had to do it on my TD5.
Procedure; -Pull off connector -With 2 spanners (think they are something like 14mm and 13mm spanner) unscrew the sensor. -You may get a dribble of fluid so have a cloth ready to soak it up. -Fill the hole in the sensor with clean DOT4 fluid. The fluid will stay in there and reduce the chance of getting a trapped air bubble which will make the switch malfunction. -Screw the new sensor back on to the rest of the master cylinder and tighten. -Plug the connector back on. -Test the clutch and sensor are working. If you have more than 20 minutes it would be a great idea to bleed the entire clutch system whilst you have the tools out. Incidentally, I have just been through this same problem with the TD5 and it turned out NOT to be the switch that was at fault, but the master cylinder seals (they have done 145k miles). In the TD5 the fault manifests itself as the engine cutting out when the clutch is depressed and then not starting again but turning over. Also in low box it was kangarooing like crazy. I replaced the switch and it seemed to be fixed, but a coupe of months later it all started happening again (actually on my wedding day... ). Managed to baby it back from Gibraltar with a full fluid change, the fluid that came out was black... When I got home I changed the master and slave cylinders and refitted the original switch... All sorted, all fixed and not a problem for nearly 8k miles. So if the switch change does not fix the problem, then take a look at your clutch master and slave cylinders. If you fluid is black then it is highly likely your seals are on the way out... The fluid should be a light brown colour. Have fun and good luck |

Changed clutch switch, was easy.
However when in low range I'm still not getting increased revs / anti-stall Back to the drawing board. There must be some kind of switch on the low selector or gearbox that's broken |
